| INXS/STAPP - LOS ANGELES I, II and SAN JACINTO - JUNE 16-18, 2006 |
[19 Jun 2006|02:23pm] |
Three days, three shows. Here it goes!
NIGHT ONE: INXS/STAPP - THE GREEK THEATRE, LOS ANGELES 6/16/06

Holy freaking shit!
Great great show, great great night. Let me try to get this all down before I forget and before my next World Cup game comes on. The Greek's a beautiful venue, an open air space right in the middle of LA's gorgeous Griffith Park. I knew it was gonna be a great night when the first people I run in to are LAXguy and my girl Kylie--ye old rockstar spoiler crew! -- in the parking lot. Get into the venue, and GASP - not only is it more intimate an arena than I'd thought (maybe 6000 seats?) but the stage is about crotch high! With no barrier between audience and band. Soon as I see that I drop to my knees and kiss my FRONT ROW TICKETS!! Then I mentally prepare myself...Must. Shake. Moneymakers!! From that moment on I ran into at least 30 folks from all over - rockbanders, TWoPpers, 448ers, inxs.com peeps, folks I'd met at the Rockstar tapings, folks I'd met in Toronto...folks from my "real" life that I didn't even know KNEW INXS. Wow! the world was/is in LA! Hung out with my spoiler friends, plus party gals 4leaf, PetuniaP, carrie the california crew of fabtwin, anneinLA, Rockesq & Mystified, our very own beautiful girl Cheryl, the glorious strawberrygirl, and supersis Lane, the wonderful emswazzu! and superphotodiva rockphoto who I chatted with up front, while waiting for the show to start - girlfriend took some seriously great photos of the show, which you can check out here! And even chatted with two great folks from the Rockstar days, Producer Dave and my boy Sasha the base player from the House Band!! Loved him the best, sorry Paul Merkovich!! Okay. lots of mingling, lots of socializing...and I'm sorry to say that I gabbed all the way through dear Scott Stapp's performance. I'm sure he did fine. I promise to shut up tomorrow night and give him my full attention, but for tonight...fuck that noise! I had to catch up with my friends!
So. Gabfest over. On with the show.
Countdown. No one, and I mean NO one is counting down with the clock. WTF?? It hit the ten second mark, and rather than hearing deafening excitement...I hear polite crowd murmuring! Huh?? No matter, us front row gals scream it down...five...four...three...two...harmonica!! And we're off. Curtain drops, the boys open with a bang - Suicide Blonde. JD, in fedora, yellow tie, shades, jacket...looked delicious...and human sized! This was the first time I've seen them on a stage so low, and not up on a huge pedestal so to speak. First thought to this: I can make the stage with only a two-step leap! And three steps later, Kirk could be mine!! But I quickly talk myself out of this behavior...certainly not in the opening song... Gotta save those moves for later, LOL! So they blow through Blonde. Our boys looks and sounds fully in control, and your front row pogos like someone's dumped fire ants in our pants! From that, into Devil's Party, brilliant as usual! I was Kirk-side, and loving it! Our favorite Sax man was all mischevous smiles and teasing all night! What a freakin' high that guy's smile gives you!
And speaking of high...
Someone lit up a big fatty right at the beginning of the show, so first and second songs were accompaniied by a nice puffy cloud of marijuana smoke - and JD was appreciative of that! During the encore I think, he thanked whoever brought the weed. Another side note. Two chicks won a Star 98.7 radio contest (I think) and their prize was getting to sit ON STAGE (right off on the wings) in two comfy sofa chairs, and watch the first three songs! Lucky biyotches! After the third song, they are escorted off stage, but not without getting hugs and kisses from half the band. Later on, some other chick, NOT a contest winner, did the two-step leap onto the stage, got to grind for two seconds with JD, before security hauled her off. Darn, she beat me to it! ;)
So, Devil's Party, awesome. And then comes the highlight of my night...HOT GIRLS!!! They should just furnish all chicks in the front row with stripper poles, 'cause girls started grindin' it grindin' it when that song started! I won't lie, me too!! JD comes over during the beginning of the song...and sings a bit of it to me!! I'm already ready to die happy with THAT when...he leans closer...and closer...and takes my big fat sun glasses off the top of my head...then KISSES me! Squee!!! Juicy lips, kids!! He then wears my sunglasses, and parades around the stage with them for a couple stanzas -- they're big black ones, seriously Greta Garbo shades - and he looks dynamite in them!

I was standing next to rockphoto when she took this! These aren't my shades (this photo is from a couple songs earlier...but you get the picture...) JD comes around later and hands them back to me. Sigh! I'll never wash those glasses again! ;) Okay, I'm positive the show continues, but I am frozen in that moment in time for several minutes! Someone hurry up and invent time travel, cause I want to go back now!

Favorite songs of the night: Hot Girls!!! What You Need, The Original Sin, Hungry, Devil's Party, Pretty Vegas, Kick, Don't Change. Everyone danced so hard during these songs, I had no sense at all that JD had leg problems - he was hopping around, twirling, going into the audience a couple times, squatting etc etc. Only at the very end, as he was leaving stage after the encore, did I seem him limp. Jon - oh my dear sweet Jon - he really really brought it last night! He broke sticks, he twirled them, he banged that drum for real, yall! If I had made a running leap onto the stage, it would have been straight for Jon ;)

Tim came over to our side of the stage quite often, and each time we gave him a hero's welcome. He looked wonderful - fit, sexy, smiling a smile that comes from having a real good time, nothing fake about it -- he was all mischeivous little boy with a bad ass guitar. He and kirk were big on eye contact with the audience - lots of pointing waving smiling with these guys. Garry Gary was out front, our side a lot as well - his shaggy hair look is very sexy -- but why is this cutie so shy?! He would smile and look down whenever anyone would scream his name. Awww!!! Once I screamed "Yeahhhhh Garry!!" And he just pointed over to Tim and JD, indicating, no THEY'RE the hot ones! WTF Garry? Accept the love, my brotha! LOL.
Have I mentioned today how much I love Kirk?

Boyfriend was singing, dancing, playing sax on his knees, then guitar on his back - it was like Cirque de freakin' Soleil up there! Someone handed him a stuffed saxophone, which he playfully pretended to blow. Whoever brought that thing, good gift!! Kirk really looked like he got a kick out of it :) Speaking of props, JD also sported some glowing stick thingies that he swung around - it was cool but weird....it was a cross between watching a ninja master with his num chuks and seeing some chick-gymnast ribbon dancing during the olympics. When he was done, he flung them into the audience.
Andrew shook his money makers all night! And once or twice, when he was on guitar, came out from the shadows and came...gasp...mid stage! Maybe someday we'll see him on the front lines with his buds, Kirk and Tim :)
So it was a great time. Best thing about the night... JD's lips! Second best thing: hanging out with all my new friends! Thanks for making it such a fun night gals! :) See ya again tonight for the Greek II, Electric Boogaloo.
NIGHT TWO: INXS/STAPP - THE GREEK THEATRE, LOS ANGELES 6/17/06
Hola chicos and chicas! (I've been watching too much World Cup on Univision)
Back from night two at the Greek - just as great as night one!!! This time I got to hear Scott Stapp's full set - and he was really good! He songs were fun, he had a big ol' GLOWING smile on his face like he'd just found the Lord, like, two seconds before he went on stage! He's a talker though - lots of new agey, feel good speak that went over pretty well. His happiness at performing was pretty contagious, because I went from being luke warm about the guy, to cheering for him in the end. Good opener, dude!
Random cool people sightings: drumtech and rockphoto, Producer Dave, Courtney from Survivor (the firedancer with the blonde dreds - not to be confused with rockphoto's friend OR Jordis) and Rachel Hunter!
The show was great - this time got to stand Tim-side in the pit, about three rows back. It seemed like soooo many of our group of friends got the front row love last night!! Coolest moment of the night, when JD stole one sweet gal's black cowboy hat and wore it onstage. JD dressed all in black, with that black hat on? Let's hope someone got a picture...
All around great show - seemingly more energy than last night, if possible! This was supposed to be my last show but...got talked into doing just one more...
NIGHT THREE: INXS/STAPP - SOBOBA CASINO, HEMET/SAN JACINTO 6/18/06
Squeee!!!!!!! Best show EVER!!!!! Well, it's right up there with Toronto, for me! And I hadn't even planned to go until the amazing amazing generosity of our Rockbanders coughed up a ticket for me, and convinced me to go! :) On the two hour drive to the venue, I was thinking, good god, I'm going to turn this car around and go home, I'm way too tired to make this drive...and how could it POSSIBLY top the last two shows at the Greek??
Well...let me tell ya...
Get to the venue... and my heart sinks. It's a fairly small outdoor/covered venue...and the stands are EMPTY, and the floor is barely filled. Uh oh. I think to myself, I KNEW I should have skipped this one, and ended on the high note of the Greek Shows...the stadium looked like the last night of the state fair, after all the prizes had been awarded for best pig! Empty, dusty, with rickety bleachers for seats, and seat numbers drawn in CHALK on the FLOOR! Huh?? This city girl was NOT feeling it...at first. But the crowd grew...and it turns out Hemet was the place to be because practically the ENTIRE ROCKBAND CREW, old and new was there, FRONT ROW!!! And the 448ers had a BIG turn out as well!! What the hell were all these peeps doing in the middle of the freakin' desert??
Turning up the friggin' HEAT, that's what!!!!
Oh man, once that show started, not only did front row girls cheryl, tits, susu, fabtwin, SOH, PetuniaP, 4leaf, strawberrygirl, lane, angie, carrie, WATT, rockphoto, emswazzu, and so many others whose faces I know, but whose names I get all mixed up!! The hardcore fans REPRESENTED at San Jacinto! And holy crap did they get the love! I saw them get apples from Andrew, several hits off JD's cigarette, etc etc, lots and lots of playful moments!! These didn't come without a cost, though -- the peeps in San Jacinto don't play around - there was a LOT of elbowing and shoving in the front rows, so your girls had to fight for everything they got!
Got a ninth row ticket from angel of angels Melinda who promised to try to squeeze me up front with her. Once in the venue, supersisters Christine and Lane - gave me a ticket for 3rd row where I stayed and rocked out the whole concert!! Thank you thank you thank you ladies, and you especially carole :) :)
Front row, up against the rails was so tight that fights were about to break out, so I didn't even make a try for it. But that turned out to be a good move on my part because I got so much love from our boys that I was in a perpetual state of swoonage all night long!! Love this band!!
The crowd: The crowd was weird...they sat down for a bit of the show, definitely during By My Side and Afterglow, but through other songs as well...to the point where JD commented on it, pretty much asking them to stand, saying, "This ain't church!" Bwah. But once the audience got going, they were fucking LOUD, man!! And there was a posse of teen aged girls, at least I think they were teens who gave this GREAT high-pitched scream whenever JD came their way - think of those screams you used to hear in old footage of the Beatles in concert...and you've got the sound coming from these chicks... unbelievable!! It was like JD was Elvis...but in the GOOD way!
The guys seemed really playful and relaxed, and it truly seemed like they felt they were playing for a bunch of friends...and they were! Us! Favorite moments - JD playing with Kirk's sax - hawt! JD playing with Kirk's hair, hawter!! JD pointing at me a couple times when he sang, "...move down south and marry a dancer..." Squee!! Petunia puffin' on JD's *ahem* cigarette, JD dancing around with Melinda's boas and draping them all over himself, and TITS' "ANDREW" sign! Favorite songs of the night: Suicide Blonde, Devil's Party, HOT GIRLS!, Never Let You Go, Mystify, Kick, Original Sin, Don't Change...okay, the whole show, damnit!
It's probably the best time I've had at an INXS concert, and THAT is high praise. Thanks to everyone who told me to go - you were right! Okay. So that really was the last show for me! It was great meeting all you super people, and seeing SO MANY of the gang, from all over. I'll post more photos as they roll in...the above are courtesy the brilliant strawberrygirl, the gorgeously talented rockphoto and superwoman WATT.
Have fun everybody on the rest of this tour! *mwah!*

| Concert Review: INXS - TORONTO, LONDON & KITCHENER, ONTARIO - May 14-16, 2006 |
[21 May 2006|08:36am] |
INXS: TORONTO - 05/14/06, AIR CANADA CENTRE
First stop: Toronto.
This was hands down the best INXS show I've seen not just because the Air Canada Center was packed to the gills with sweaty fans but because I had the best seats I've ever had for any show in my life FRONT ROW CENTER!!! Oh man, there's no going back. Second row just will NOT do from now on, LOL! So Toronto was my first concert of a five day, five concert, four city, four band tour of Canada and holy shit did it ever start off with a bang. Flew into Toronto around 3, checked into hotel, got ready to party with my TWO crews in town -- first crew consisted of the wonderful chick who shared this great night with me Erin What a freakin trouper, on crutches thanks to a bum knee and was STILL able to rock out all night long!! -- we met for drinks at The Lonestar with our 448 friends. It was great meeting all of you! Especially TinaRocks, macbrat, lucky, BONAMImy fellow song gamer, and skluvsjason who I kept running into over and over! Then E. and I headed out to the second gathering, of my favorite Rockbanders, at Fionn McCools holy CRAP there were a lot of us there-- I'm stunned at the size of the Toronto contengent and thanks for the warm greetings Toronto people, you really made this LA gal feel right at home! It was so great to meet everybody especially my gal newINXSfan, JDIMH, Shiplato, Serendipity, my girl Radioshoes!!!, BOUFFE!!!, W.A.T.T., Butterfly tattoo, beinghuman who had on my favorite shirt!, Inzane, Ember, and so many people I can't match up names with your gorgeous faces!
Then it was off to the show! Erin and I go in style because of her bum knee we get to go in special doors, ride up special elevators and then get ushered right up to front row center--SQUEE!!!!!! We got there in time to hear half the opening band, Stabilo. They were decent blokes and it was fun bopping about to them. They had to plead for the audience to get up for several numbers, poor guys, but the audience was game and gave them love in the end.
During intermission, a few of us girls flirted outrageously with the front row security guy (Im looking at YOU beinghuman) and he was really cool. I told him I'd be back at the ACC in a couple days for Depeche Mode, and I expected him to hook me up, and boy did he ever!!!!! More on that in my Depeche- Toronto review (read about that here).
Anyways. On with the show!
Countdown starts. Not as many cheers at 4:48 marker as one would hope, but we did our best!!
The show -- I truly thought JD spent the entire show singing DIRECTLY INTO MY EYES (plug ears and insert unholy amounts of fan girl squeeing here!!!!!!). So imagine my surprise in coming on the internet and reading that EVERYONE had the same EXACT same experience, LOL!!! But really, I was seriously feeling the JD love, being right in front of the mic stand and I'm thinking to myself, is this because he recognizes me from the Rockstar days? Or because I'm one hot little number in my cute little outfit? Or is the poor bastard trying to remember my face to describe it to security because Im going totally BATSHIT nutso in front of him, practically weeping like an infant from joy??? I prefer to believe the first one ;)
Okay the set list is as described in countless places, so the highlights for me this show were HOT GIRLS, because thats the first time Ive heard it live and WOW!!!!! I am so ready for this to be the next single. Best dance performances PERFECT STRANGERS and THE ONE THING. AFTERGLOW keeps getting better and better. I could have done without AMAZING GRACE, but it was lovely. LOVED TASTE IT this show, why? Because it was about the band, and not so much about our boy humping the mic stand! I know the chicks dig the mic - sex, but I kinda dont (Prude Patrol, party of one, I know).
I didnt take any pictures because I wanted to enjoy the show, but also because the camera Nazis were definitely out in full force. But thats cool I made up for it the next night in LONDON (scroll down!).
Jon - Got a GREAT view of my dear Jon for the whole show, and I think I died the little death as the French say every time I made eye contact with this guy. The drums are JUST. THAT. POWERFUL. Every move I made was in time to the beat of Jons right hand drumstick. Especially during HUNGRY and THE ONE THING and DONT CHANGE. This man is a gift to my heartand to my waistline -- I musta dropped 5 pounds trying to keep the beat with Jon.
Kirk -- didnt get to see much of him that night, was more center/Tim-side. I didnt stress because my tix for the next night were to be right in front of him. So I had to save up my Kirk-love for later ;)
Tim -- again, since I was so central, I had eyes only for Jon and JD but again knew that at Kitchener I was due to be in front of Tim, so again, was forced to save up the Tim love till later.
They were taping this show to use as clips on Rockstar II -- yay!!! I had the pleasure of chatting briefly with Kirk a couple nights later, he said he thought the TO show as a bit off, but I certainly didnt feel that way! The exact opposite in fact! As a fan, it was the best of all worlds best band, best seat, great venue, crazily enthusiastic friends to share it with it just couldnt get any better.
Afterwards, went to the afterparty in which several of the old Rockstar:INXS contestants performed: Suzie McNeil, Tara Sloan, Ty Taylor and Mig Ayesa. Hm! Interesting. It was fun to be able to sit and talk and meet new people at the venue chatted with several cool chicks there. As for the performances, everyone sounded GREAT, especially Tara and Ty. I just wished theyd done more of their original stuff rather than the ol Rockstar faves. Though their vocals were good, these old songs (particularly MiG singing Baby I Love Your Way) just gave the whole thing a stink of Eau de Has-been. Yikes. Suzie tried her hardest to hide her complete dislike of INXS/JD but it wasn't too hard to sniff out.
Ty on the other hand was cool, and raised a glass to INXS and JD in particular, saying without them the rest of them would never have gotten to know one another, and go on this fantastic journey. Way cool, Ty! My favorite former "rocker" is still Deanna Johnston who I saw back in Vegas. Best pipes, hands down.
So that was Toronto starting this whole trip off with a bang.
Next up: London, Ontario...INXS: LONDON, ONTARIO CANADA 05/15/2006 JOHN LABATT CENTRE

Well well well! And here I thought it couldnt get any better! Actually, the show didnt get better my sixth row seats were pretty crappy after Id been spoiled rotten in the front row the night before, but I'm sure no one has sympathy for my horrible plight, LOL!
I drove from Toronto to London lovely greeny-cloudy scenery that looked something like this for 3 hours:

London was cool definitely had the college town vibe. Before the show, hung out a bit with my gal newINXSfan and then headed over to the Rockband gathering at Chaucers. The usual suspects were there -- I've learned my lesson about giving shout-outs because my memory's so faulty, but favorite meeting of the night was BSC girl and her awesome son Jamie this kid was on the ball, and a good chatter!!
So. On with the show.
As I said, started off in the sixth row with two cool 448ers, who IMMEDIATELY devised a game plan of how to get us out of the boondocks (LOL) and up to the front. The plan worked for them!! But I got caught so it was back to the sixth row for me. Snuck up later, and took lots of pix. Here they are!
Great crowd, great energy! Again, only minimal cheers when the countdown clock hits 4:48, but the place is ready to rock out by the time we hear Andrews harmonica...

Loved hearing the spoken word rap once more he'd be right up there with the beat poets if this INXS thing falls through. Check him out! Ive got a little video of it that I'll upload later.

So, since I already kinda wrote about the Toronto concert, heres this one, in pictures that I took from Kirks side of stage. Kirk was on fire tonight!

During Amazing Grace

Another awesome show!! On the way out, passed this in the parking lot - which one of you drove this car??? Love it !

Later ran into a whole bunch of 448ers and some of my myspace friends at a hotel!! Yay! Finally got to meet Izalurkin and Pretty Vegas in person, that was cool! Had drinks with some fellow Rockbanders and had the most awesome time with them -- thanks guys for letting me hang out with you! Later, fantasies were fulfilled when I got to buy Tim a drink and have a two second chat with Kirk, both very charming, lovely men!! What a high! But all good things come to an end...
only to begin again the next day, in...
KITCHENER, ONTARIO - 05/16/06 - THE AUD
Woke up bleary-eyed from party-ing til 3 in the morning, but that was soon cured by a FAT room service breakfast. So, packed my shit, shook the London dust off my feet, and hit the road to the next concert town...

Oh, Kitchener. I mistakenly thought this was quite the one-horse town...until I got a load of the CROWD!! Holy crap, not only were Kitchener folk the LOUDEST crowd, they really shook that joint. The show was fan-flipping-tastic!!!! Here's the report from the SECOND ROW, TIM-SIDE.... Countdown begins, and THIS time a the 4:48 marker, the crowd goes batshit insane!!!! I don't just mean us nutters in the front, I mean the whole arena!!! Wow!!! I ran into even more board folk, and my namesake, a super cool chick I'd met out in LA during the Rockstar days!! What a reunion!!
So, funny thing. When the countdown clock started? It was like feeding time at the orphanage, as Ty would say -- people of all shapes, sizes and ages started LEAPING over chairs in a MAD DASH for the FRONT ROW! Chicks were getting their heals caught on chair backs and stumbling into the folks in front of them. A mini fight broke out between some ladies who had paid to be there, and two chicks who hadn't! They don't play around in Kitchener, y'all! But I can't lie, I did some chair hopping too, til it was me, Zane and aussieb rocking out behind D and zoeslovely!!
On with the show. It rocked!! I danced harder at this show than at all the rest, and I have no idea why! All I know is I worked off ALL the pancakes and egg muffins I'd eaten...in the span of like two minutes!!
Differences about tonight's show...JD changed up his spoken word rap. Loved this new version!! Just loved it. Towards the end of the show, there seemed to be some technical difficulties because I couldn't hear any of the guitar riffs during the encore songs.
For the encore, JD came out in a hockey jersey which got loud cheers...but he quickly whips it off to reveal this skin tight leather zippered shirt underneath. Yowza! At end of the show, he rips it off fully and throws the shirt into the audience...and holy moses you wouldn't believe the tussle that broke out over that shirt!! Imagine twenty women trying to rip the limbs off of the ONE guy who had grabbed onto the shirt and wouldn't let go! I had to laugh, but damn it got rough, I think even BSCgirl went down in the tussle! I was thinking to myself, DUDE, just let the shirt go - you can't fight death, taxes, city hall...and twenty rabid female JD fans! Of course, if I'd been closer to said shirt, yours truly would have put in a good fight for it, too! ;)
So show ends with the fabulous Don't Change and I'm totally in tears because my mini tour with INXS is over. I hugged all my favorite batshit crazy frineds good-bye... Can't wait to meet you all again!
But there was no time for tears because I knew I had to be up bright and early the next morning to head off to Montreal, to see the other BIG musical crush of my life, Depeche Mode...
If you wanna read about the Depeche shows in Montreal and Toronto, check out my DM blog entries here on myspace. :)

Hi everyone! Got a new job in the last few week's that's been kicking my ass, so I haven't been able to update the site. But this does not mean that my batshit crazy love for our band has diminished in any way! I was able to go to two INXS concerts, at Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles (Jan 27th) and at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas (Jan 28th). The whole process was whirlwind -- I roadtripped my way to Vegas, baby, and though my boy JD was fighting a horrible cold and pretty much lost his voice, I got to see two of the best concerts of my life!!! I met lots of people face to face that I had only interacted with via internet -- and what a great bunch of people. I had such a good time, that I'm almost ready to chuck it all and become a frickin' groupie!! What's that you say, dude? I already AM one? Uh...well...I know *you* are, but what am I! ;-P
After the Vegas show, Rockband.com threw a great party at the Monte Carlo, where Deanna Johnston performed a forty minute set. Below is my review of the two INXS shows, the Lovehammers, and the Deanna gig, and some pix I took....

Hi Friends!!!
Just got back to LA after my two night/two city tour with the BINXies!! So here’s the quick double review. Even though I’ve been your intrepid spoiler for a thousand months, Gibson Amphitheatre/Los Angeles was actually my first BINX concert since the Rockstar finale. All I know is this. Our boys fucking rocked Gibson, y’all. I was almost in tears. Again! It seems like at every milestone for OB:OB, I weep like a child – first, when Jason won this thing, I thought to myself, “AHH!! How freakin’ happy am I for this boy!” Then when I saw him at their first meet and greet – I shed another tear, because he looked so happy and content, and I thought – “No, NOW our boy’s arrived! I can’t be any happier for him!” Then when the Pretty Vegas video appeared, I cried anew, thinking – “Wow! He’s really done it now! THIS is the culmination of all binx’s hard work! This is the ride, baby! This is the show!” Then Switch came out, and I heard OB: Complete, and I thought, “WAIT, here’s their final moment of triumph!! I couldn’t possibly be more proud and happy for him!!!”
And then came Gibson.
Well, let me just say, I COULDN’T BE MORE PROUD OF JD!!! “Pride” feels like an odd word to use, because it sounds like something only his mother gets to say, but that’s what I felt – pride!! Our boy was such a professional, AND a kid, AND a showman – and to see a sea of people responding so joyfully to that… was simply wonderful. I'm not going to do a detailed song analyis, but here are some observations—
Never Let You Go – ripped my heart out. He adds so many inflections and riffs to the song that I don’t want to listen to the album version of it anymore, I just wanna hear it live!! Somebody try to rip it, because it’s just beautiful. Ditto Afterglow. The backup singers really tore the shit outta that song, made into something special and transcendent. Who can go back to listening to the Switch version after hearing THAT?? I had this feeling like I was seeing the culmination of everything us batshit crazies have been writing/arguing/voting/fighting for for the last six months. It felt like something that couldn’t get better. I’d simply seen our boys at their best!
And then came Vegas.
I know, I know, JD was sick. The sound was for shit. The stage was small. You couldn’t see JD or hear him half the time. For me, though, the show was the BEST EVER – worth every friggin’ cent!!! From where I sat (third row, baby! Thanks to a beautiful ROSE of a gal! *mwah*, Angel!) our boys were so electrifying. They sang to us, and we got to sing right back to them, every word to every song, all of us, at the top of our lungs. I wish every one of the 14,000 strong audience could have felt what we did up there!
I was right in front of Kirk – and did my best to let him know that I loved him bestest! He was on fucking fire, that guy! Especially during Kick. I just FELT that instrument all the way to the bone. I could have stood there for days listening to that sex…er, sax! And that stomp thing that Garry Gary does, while shakin’ his head and grinnin’ like a lunatic? Hawt! I didn’t get to see much of Timmy, but that’s okay. I’ll still bare his offspring if asked.
Jon was well…Jon. And by “Jon” I mean... a pure bad ass who brings the fuckin’ beat!!!! Holy mother. Whenever he even remotely looked my way, I started jumping up and down like the craziest of crazy persons – I couldn’t help it! It was Jon! Jon, people! This is the closest I’ve ever been to that man while he’s on drums. Gah! My heart at one point just. Couldn’t. Take it. It was sensory overload.

JD – thank you thank you for the memories, my friend! Again, Never Let You Go was my favorite of the night, I just love all the extras and the sing-alongs. They need to release that shit NOW as a single. Got to see the upclose version of Taste It, and finally saw what all the ladies were gaga-ing about. All I can say is. Gah! Gah! And a gurgle noise, for good measure! (a rockbander, Hot Girl caught this on video -- its a must see if you have the bandwidth! Taste It- Live, Vegas 1/28/06 (wmv)

But our boy wasn’t all about the sex, last night, he was also about the love. Before the concert started, me and some chick next to me (the one chucking all the underwear at the stage) were pointing up to this section of seats that was practically BEHIND the stage curtain, what looked like a total shit seats—saying, glad we’re not THOSE poor bastards! Well… guess who JD spent a large portion of the night singing to? Those poor bastards! It was like he was trying make sure EVERYONE got a piece of him – and that made me heart him even more!
I didn’t notice the sound going in and out during the songs as others have reported, but I couldn’t hear jack shit when he was talking to the crowd. But that was okay, because I was close enough to see tears in his eyes when it was all over – OB was really moved to be there! Back at him! Spontaneous hugging broke out amongst complete strangers after several of the songs – we were all just so friggin’ happy! Maybe we were drunk, and had low standards or something, but all of us were in tears by the end of Don’t Change.
A few words about the Lovehammers. Those guys put on a really good show. I was sad that I missed most of their set at Gibson, so made sure to catch the whole thing in Vegas…and am so glad I did. Man, do I love me some Marty. He was bendy, screamy, skinny and loud – and I happen to like all those things, so yay for me! He had a lotta love for his band, and for the crowd. He acknowledged his RS:I buddies, Suzie, Ty and Deanna, and made sure each of them got a cheer from the audience – sweet of him! And again, he was very thankful to INXS, especially for the “hangover tips” they’ve given the Lovehammers. Heh. So, though I didn’t turn into a slobbering Lovehammer fan, I am now a serious devotee of the hottie drummer. Dino? Yeah. Dino…yum. I’ll definitely catch them if they play Viper Room or something again. Wait, I've just been informed: hottie drummer = Bobby!, mmmm yes, Bobby... Slurp!

The best part of Vegas, though was meeting so many Rockbanders– thank you thank you Cheryl and ArmedandDangerous for working so hard, and kicking ass with this party. Pulling in Deanna was a coup. That girl can fucking sing, and it’s a total crime she’s not a super star. I can’t believe how awesome she sounded – powerful, completely in command of the material, sexy, down-to-earth, not afraid to go for any note. Wow. Just wow. I was sad to hear she didn't have an album out, because I was ready to buy whatever that girl was sellin'. Go, Deanna!
Well, that’s all she wrote! Literally! My summer/autumn/winter fling with the BINXies has finally come to an end, and that makes me sad! I wanna see more shows! I wanna have Jon’s bebbies! I wanna meet more cool Rockbanders! I wanna kick Estella’s ass! Sooo many things left undone ;-) But oh well. Maybe on the next leg. What a great ride, it’s been though, especially because of you guys! Kisses, to all.
Love, your spoiler, JYM

| Hi everyone! |
[19 Oct 2005|02:26pm] |
* * *
Hello old friends!
This is my first attempt at blogging, so bear with. Got encouraged to do this by my good pal LAXguy to help chronicle our batshit crazy summer, filled with Rockstar INXS. Thanks to another anonymous friend who helped me find all my old posts and put them all in one place. You rock, man, more than anyone.
Ultimately what you'll find here? Spoilers about the show, behind-the-scenes stuff that never made it to the air, what went on at the tapings when the cameras went off, and other random musings/posts of mine, previously scattered all over the internet.
I ended up going to 20 of the 22 tapings of the show. Missed the first two, almost didn't go to the third because my friends crapped out on me at the last second. But I said, eh. It'll be a fun way to kill a couple hours. Twenty tapings, "a thousand weeks", and a million posts later, here I sit, stunned at what fuckin' awesome journey it was! Met some incredible people along the way - none of us able quite explain what we were doing standing in line at seven in the morning or ten at night or four in the afternoon on a week day or in the rain or after our friends had given us the fiftieth worried look. Cool thing is, it wasn't just me! This show had some hardcore fans. Some of us were joiners, others loners, rock lovers, supermoms, savvy teens, adult hipsters, housewives, writers, musicians, INXS diehards -- hey I even ran into my celebrity dentist at a couple tapings! -- but we all got swept up into one helluva ride. Everyone had their favorites (my dentist really liked Jordis, and homeboy practically wept when she crapped out on Dream On) but really - we were ALL there for the music! You know what I'm talking about. You were probably right there, yelling your head off in the Pit, next to me.
So. Here's our ride, chronicled for posterity. It ain't pretty, just a cut and paste hatchet job for the most part. I'll get around to dressing it up, making it presentable...but for now, here it is, naked and dirty.
JYM
....Oh yeah, over the three months that this show aired, a whole new language kinda sprang up. Quick lexicon for the uninitiated.
OB - Our Band (INXS) - how INXS liked to refer to themselves, and hey, who are we fans to argue. BINXS, binx, binxies - Our affectionate nickname for Band: INXS. OB:H - Our Band: House - the fuckin' kick ass house band. TWoP: Television Without Pity - a website where uberfans snarked on the show for over 1000 pages. 800 of those pages? Pure gold. Rockers/Rawkers/Hamsters - the contestants Batshit - A little nickname for JD (sorry, man. It's affectionate, we love your crazy ass!) Ass hat - attrocious head gear, also a term used to describe behavior of one who'd wear such a hat. Liquor Store Larry - another cruel but affectionate nickname for Brandon Calhoun, aka Cro-Brandon, Unfrozen Caveman Rockstar, etc. Love your ass, too man! PPoD - Pocket Prince of Darkness, aka Dave Navarro, show host Bwak Bwak - Brooke Burke, try saying her name five times fast and you get... OP: Dave - Our Producer, Dave Goffin, the exec producer of the show who'd give us shout outs each week. You rock, too Dave. YNRFOB - "You're not roit fer our bend, INXS" The catch phrase used to boot each contestant. Koolaid drinker - fans of Marty Casey, drunk on the Jim Jones drink of choice, koolaid Everclear drinker - fan of JD Fortune -- same principal applies, but with a much harder liquor. Milk and Cookies eater - Fan of MiG. Enough said.
Yeah, we're twelve. But we're cute!

| Virgin Megastore Opening/VIP Party (10/17/05) |
[18 Oct 2005|06:53pm] |
* * From my report on Rockband.com on INXS at the VIRGIN MEGASTORE GRAND OPENING...
Your spoiler crew is back from the BEST. NIGHT. EVAH!!! The Virgin Mega event (INXS, Gang of Four, dredg doing an open air concert on the roof of the new Virgin Megastore in Hollywood) got rained out. And when I say rained out, I actually mean rained, lightning-ed, thundered and hailed out. Yes. It hailed in Los Angeles. Remember that story of how it's rained on every pivotal day for INXS since Hutch died? How the band thought it was a signal from MH? So what does dropping hail on hundreds of INXS fans mean? Yikes. What sucked, at first, was that many fans had flown in from across the country to see this shindig, and it seemed they were about to be cruelly disappointed! Until. It was announced that INXS had decided to do an impromptu Meet & Greet with the fans, inside the new store. Woohoo! A BIG number of fans turned up, despite the plague of locusts, er, I mean hail. And that, my friends, is when the fun started.
The store had Pretty Vegas playing in a continuous loop, and the fun part -- the entire fan base singing along to the song while waiting in line to see INXS! Every time the song would start anew, the whole store would cheer, and start singing it AGAIN! The line to take pix with the band was very long, but far from being overwhelmed our boy JD was AWESOME! Your spoiler crew managed to get VIP press passes, so were able to watch JDINXS from the cordoned off press area while most of the fans paraded through. I'd say 40% of the fans made a beeline for JD, but most gave all our boys love and respect. JD was the center of attention though, hands down. Whenever pics were taken, they were 90% with him. And in EACH ONE, he'd rest his head on the fan's shoulder, or hug them and stare right into the camera with a shit-eating grin -- I'd say EVERY fan girl/guy walked out of there with a pic that looked like JD was freakin' in love with them. Unable to help ourselves, most of your spoiler crew, despite our special badges, hopped in the fan line and got our pix taken with the band, too. In mine, I tell JD to point right at the camera, in that "Uncle Sam wants YOU" pose -- we both did it -- hopefully that pic comes out!
Afterwards, five of us got to go to the VIP party. Best night of the summer, gang, hands down. It's so late I can't give more details, but will leave it to others to fill in the gaps. We all have different stories to tell -- because each of us got to spend a little time with our band and our boy. My brief story -- kisses, hugs and chatting at random times with Kirk, Timmy and JD. JD recognized your spoiler crew and was really happy to see us! VERY sweet and welcoming, and made sure to carve out time for a few secs to chat. But he was DEFINITELY hunted prey at this party, kids -- everyone wanted a piece of him, particularly rabid female types. Here, he seemed tired and overwhelmed a bit -- but he was always gracious, always had a nice word to say to whichever chick threw herself at him. He stuck close to his sis most of the night, giving her little hugs when he got a sec. Had heard rumor that they were gonna play at the after party, but I think Garry Gary may have left, and Andrew wasn't into it. Various members of the spoiler crew talked to JD, Tim and Kirk to see if they were up for playing -- they were! Unfortunately, didn't happen. Gang of Four ended up going on, and they were pretty damn great. One by one the bINXieS slipped out, with JD leaving last, about half an hour after the rest.
That's the scoop for now. LAXguy, CarolB, and jellyfish I'm sure have much better stories! ;)

| CRAIG FERGUSON TAPING - INXS - AIRED 09/23/05 |
[24 Sep 2005|03:31pm] |
INXS, with its brand new lead singer JD Fortune, appeared on the LATE LATE SHOW WITH CRAIG FERGUSON. Your spoiler crew was there.
The skinny:
Sorry it took so long to post about this, but I enjoyed myself at the Craig Ferguson taping, and saw things a leetle differently than my friend fellow spoiler buddy! I thought it was a riot that we actually DID get recognized by several of the guards, handlers, CBS crew -- one even asked us, "You guys! Why aren't you all on the VIP list??" Heh! We wish! After what, 24 tapings or so? I've only been given "special treatment" twice. No reason to expect it here.
That said, we DID have the shittiest seats in the house, though, no lie! The space was so tiny, I think three people in the entire studio got a good view, the rest -- might as well have watched it from home. But that was just the dynamics of this little studio -- poor Craig Ferguson doesn't get a Duplicate!Mayan! set, he gets an Upscale!Port-a-potty! set.
I wish the camera could have panned to the audience, because the 75-100 people they shoved into that tin can were yelling, screaming and pogoing right along with our boy! They came out and did their thing like a well-oiled machine -- after only two days of being together. Good on ya, INXS! I can't wait to see them live after two months of rehearsals.
What sucked? That it was only three minutes of JDINXS - your spoiler crew are used to going through all that hassle for a full-on SHOW, with freakin' lasers, no less! Here we got, like, Tom Everett Scott and Susan Sarandon. And nice as they are, they ain't no Marty/Dave Navarro/House Band/Brooke's skirt/MiG's Chest -- the little perks that make the package. But, alas...
Jellyfish, LAXguy, hazeyjane and I all went out for drinks later - and THAT was lovely. Though we were sad that the bestest. Summer. EVAH! was coming to a close, we raised our sangrias in toast to our band/our boy.

| The Finale Report -- hold on to your asshats! |
[20 Sep 2005|02:33pm] |
FINALE
Hi gang!!!! Wooooofreakin'hooooooo!!!! Here's a toast to us all, what a ride, eh? Here are my notes from the ROCKSTAR taping.
It started pissing rain in L.A. (for the first time in 8 months) at 6am, and didn't let up. But diehard fans lined up shivering from 7:30am to see the show. The spoiler crew was out in full force, DETERMINED to get in.
House was PACKED, with LOTS of rocker families there, I think Ty even said HIS family was there! The Marty contingent was HUGE - sisters, aunts, parents I think, uncles, and Lovehammers -- all that plus a ton of fans. JD had a BIG family contingent there as well -- mom, four cousins, dad, and friends -- and his biggest fans, the spoiler crew! MiG had a posse too, including Mrs. MiG! MiG fans were legion, EVERY rocker had lots of love love love and support in the house. But that said, audience was filled with VIP/sponsor people. Not the rockin'est bunch.
First Q&A: Lots of fun stuff got cut:
PPoD: So JD, how does it feel to drive the Honda Civic JD: (deadpan) Uhhhh, I don’t have the words to express how great it is, Dave. PPoD: Yeah, I thought it was a shitty question when they told me to ask it, too, dude!
Also, all of MiG’s q&a ended up on cutting room floor: Dave asked, what was it like working with Andrew in song writing clinic? MiG felt it was very collaborative, he learned a lot, etc.
Then the performances:
Live v. TV, most performances came out the same as on TV, but two clearly blew the fuckin' roof off - JD's You Can't Always Get What You Want and Marty's Don't Change. I thought my boy had a lock on it though after YCAGWYW. Just. fucking. PHENOMENAL!! So confident. So in command, and so so right. After the performance, he points up into the balcony where his mom was and mouths, “that’s it.” As if to say, that’s all I can do. His mother was beside herself – hand ringing, so nervous for her batshit boy.
Marty's Don't Change was deafening, in the best of all possible ways. He was sublime, in his element, giving it EVERYTHING, and not for INXS...but for his family, friends and fans. Me, the crowd, even the *suits*, went NUTSO on this song. OB jamming, Marty letting it all out -- I'm so glad to have been there for this.
JD’s What You Need, however, was a thing of beauty, in terms of his interaction with the band. I thought he had it at YCAGWYW, but I KNEW he had it after this.
While OB deliberated, the 13 booted rawkers were asked what they were up to now. Almost everyone had a new album/new music out. ALL had websites, consisting of www.(insertrockername).com. Except for Deanna, whose url is www.deannajohnston.net. Neal had a baby just three days before! Jessica got married. But freakin’ DAPHNA was the nuttiest. She said that after learning of the superficiality of the whole entertainment biz, she ditched it and has now gone the science route – studying string theory and how the science of science relates to the science of music! I shit you not.
Then it was time for OB to choose. The moment they picked JD – well, here words fail. Your spoiler crew ERUPTED with such batshit glee/screaming/crying you’d think we’d given birth to the guy! Wow. Seeing someone’s dream come true – in fuckin’ spades – like that? Greatest moment of my summer.
After New!BINX! all met onstage, did a group hug. They stood huddled in a circle for a little while. Then went right into Easy, Easy. JD was handed the lyrics on a piece of paper, and the first time he sang it, he used his crib sheet, but sold the song. They went right into Need You Tonight (I think!) With JD asking, “Um, Need You Tonite, guys? Is that okay?” They all nod and grin, go right into it. During the song, he jams with every single member of band, and Garry Gary was giving him MAJOR moo cow eyes! They all just looked so damn…happy up there.
Then they rock New Sensation. After this one, JD says to the producers – “Are we free yet? Are we done with the cameras?” He gets a yes…and then he starts a-grinnin’ , comes to the crowd and says, “So uh…we’re INXS” and we all go absolutely MONKEYshit. The band are grinning like loons! The rest of the mini-concert (seven songs in total!) rocked so hard, y'all. I almost went (even more) nutso hearing OB play, play loud and rip the roof off. I love the house band and all but dayum! – drums from Jon and sax from Kirk and HARMONICA from Andrew, was just too damn good for this old INXS fan’s heart. Yeah, baby, it was jamming. A very wonderful moment for them, and it was an honor (yes, an honor!) to be on hand for that.
Then they did Never Tear Us Apart, and JD goes over to the rocker’s pod, and hugs all his fellow rockers, most of whom put on their game faces, and hug him back. Most enthusiastic and welcoming? Marty. JD hands around the microphone, and most of the rockers sang a line or two of the song – it was lovely to hear Jessica and Tara and Suzie again!
They also sang Suicide Blonde, and Easy Easy again, this time JD did it without the cheat sheet – crumpling it up and throwing it into the audience. Then they went into the biggest crowd pleaser of the set...PRETTY VEGAS, on which OB KICKED HOLY ASS!!!!!! The Several members of the House Band were sitting on the steps of the rocker pod with their wives/girlfriends, and when this song came on, Paul and wife rocked out to it.
They closed with Don't Change, and JD's version was pretty damn great.
Afterwards, a little birdie who went backstage and chatted with the band/band managers said that everytime something pivotal had happened with INXS, there'd be a freak rain storm. It would just start pissing rain. It happened on Michael's funeral, rained in Sydney for the first time in weeks, then again when the band did it's first gig without him. And today.
So, that was the show, folks! Thanks to all my spoiler buds, LAXguy, hazeyjane, CarolB and lovely daughters, Vict, showersinger, kylie, spokesmolly and the wonderful chery! And to my wonderful everclearians! I loved every aching inch of this. ;)

| KLOS radio broadcast with FINAL THREE: My running commentary/freak out. |
[16 Sep 2005|02:38pm] |
Okay, listening to the KLOS live broadcast. Here's the blow by blow,
Listen Like Theives played as INTRO
Paul from OB:H interviewed, room packed with women, loudest screams for Marty and JD, and good screams for MiG.
First up JD:
Question: Through some creativity of editing, you came off as kind of a bung, but you’re winning people over. Was that you or editing? JD: It was a combination of the editing and me, but I had great roll models here (MiG Marty) who set me straight.
JD sings – Pretty Vegas – with acoustic guitars, with beeeyoutiful falsetto, but holy god, so nice to hear it without screams of audience. Please god tell me someone is ripping this? Holy shit yall, his fucking growl on this song was a thing of beauty. I’m typing as I’m listening to it.
Now he's singing Mystify – This is my favorite performance of the three he’s done of this song. So much more relaxed…and the backing instruments sound so fucking awesome…dare I say…better than binx? No, just different and lovely. I’ve got to have this! Please somebody be ripping this!
Okay back to listening!
Next intro: What You Need plays –
OB:House is introduced. Paul is a Leo and plays the accordion, and is secure in his sexuality. Jim, Sasha, and Nate introduced, with loudest cheers from audience. Raffy got love too.
Marty has taken off his shoes, and the DJ is like look at the size of his boats..ladies you know what that means.
Marty – no banter at all, just goes straight into singing Trees!Acoustic! Totally toned down. This song needs to be on the radio RIGHT NOW! Man I am loving hearing this without all the audience screaming. Just makes you wanna get up and start dancing. But I can’t because I have company, and they already think I’m nutso. Marty asks the studio audience to sing along with him! Aww! He gets a little screamy in the end.
Question: What do you feel going into the finale week? Marty – Came in feeling like the underdog, with all this talent, but now, this pipedream has turned into a real possibility. Question: this was an intense time, were you prepared? Marty—Am I ready? No, but I’m willing to fake it till I get it. This was rockin roll bootcamp
HOLY FUCK! He’s singing Suicide Blonde! Fake Brit accent makes appearance. He growls, screams, speaks the opening…nice, nice. Holy crap am I diggin’ this. No MH anywhere to be heard, different, sexy. Koolaid drinkers, you’re going to FUCKING flip out. It’s pretty good. I wish I could SEE him singing this. Shit dude, that was good.
MiG’s up!
MiG re ripped shirt—He said he ripped his shirt because he was desperate so he had to do SOMETHING. LOTS of banter, very funny and cute.
MiG sings Kiss from a Rose. Lord help me, I clearly hate children and puppies. After the growl and the scream, the rainbow isn’t doing it for me….oh wait, I spoke too soon! He got breathy and sexy in the middle there! Swwwweeeeeet! Okay. I could listen to this maybe one or two more times. Sing it, brother! I liked this MUCH more than on tv! Okay. That ended up being REALLY nice.
Learned that Jon, Garry, Rafael, etc, at the Key Club this Sunday night. Starts at 7.
Now MiG is singing What You Need -- nice guitar opening from OB:H . Oh, um. He’s hitting all the notes, but none of the sex. Lord lord save me, just, no. Partridge Family singing INXS. NO! No. Just, no.
Last segment: Questions!
DJ: Five months before his death, in this room, Michael Hutchence performed one of his last gigs. Isn't that freaky, DJ says. Are they feeling the pressure?
Each answer:
Mig – the pressure is always there, but this is the final week. Anything could happen, and it’s more of a celebration than a competition.
Marty—keeping the spirit of Michael alive through the music, and keeping the feeling of these five musicians, to create in the genre of dance rock, which they created.
JD- I personally am freaking out. (BIG laugh from audience).
Question: Do you retain ownership of songs? Marty: we did sign something in blood, I’m not sure. MiG: it’s a big pie, and we get a piece of it.
Group song – You Can’t Always Get What You Want, appropriate because (says the DJ) in a couple days, two of you guys, you may not be getting what you want! Big laugh.
Is that Paul singing? Jim? The boys are singing back up? I don’t know what’s going on. Whatevs! All in all GREAT show. Must have all these songs except WYN.

| Random Musings... |
[15 Sep 2005|08:05pm] |
This was in response to a rabid Marty fan on Rockband.com, assuring us of Marty's victory.
What a juicy post to pick apart, name deleted Sorry, but I just gotta shoot some logic bullets into your theory. Starting with this:
The Annunciation of JD was just a bit too well timed with the producers. The redemption of JD may have been on the producers' minds, but it was no trick of editing that his *performances* were spot on in the last two weeks -- in which he sung a total of nine songs (compared to Marty's six)-- hitting all nine outta the ball park in OB's opinion. That's not producer manipulation -- that's JD stepping up to the plate.
So a few weeks ago, he gets Andrew's permission to do their Pretty Vegas. He gets the encore (almost none of we Casey supporters knew the bonus poll was there, but the JD folks on the MSN site did). The crowd was chanting for Trees. JD even thought Marty had it. Even with the encore, JD hits the B3. But he gets to pimp his song again, and it is an INXS co-written song. Sounds like a bit of revisionist history. The bonus poll was right at the bottom of the page after you selected your vote -- how could ya not know it was there? Sorry, Camp Casey folks can read just as well as the rest of us. Plus didn't BwakBwak say that the encore voting was neck and neck? How does that jibe with "almost none of us Casey supporters knew the bonus poll was there"?
Tuesday's broadcast, JD is asked to pimp his song again, and this is shown in the reality episode. And Marty is asked by Tim to pimp Trees again, but this is NOT shown in the reality episode, but Marty talks in his blog about how Tim ASKED him to do Trees again because of public demand. So we have a head to head, but the reality episode plays it all in JD's favor. The story arc was: JD asked to pimp PV one more time, Marty tells camera he's envious, because he wishes HE could sing his song again like JD, how LUCKY JD is to get to sing his original...and then SURPRISE!! Marty does get to do Trees again! Yay, Marty!! That's the story. Not "JD gets to do Pretty Vegas!!!!! Marty Who?" as you seem to suggest.
This was a test, I have no doubt. Not a test to see what INXS likes best, but to see if the public liked the INXS song. It is their song co-written with JD, but I don't think it was a test for JD. I do think it was somewhat of a test for Marty, especially since he was asked to perform it acoustic against the full throttle glitter bull horn version of Pretty Vegas. Was he "asked" to do it acoustic, or did he decide, wisely, to change it up? Does your theory also include INXS giving JD the glitter to glue on his bull horn?
Last night, JD took a play outta the Marty handbook and did the song acoustic. Good move for him, because even I actually liked it much better. It might even win him a few fans. But last night was The Marty Casey show, guitar smash and all. And the Mig show (1st time in B3). IMO, it was the Marty/JD show. Marty because he won the encore AND the first spot into the finals. JD because he was the only performer to sing twice on the show, and nail both. Showing versatility (which they knew he had) AND consistency(which was one of Binx's concerns about him). So. Win for Marty. Win win for JD.
Now the producers do the massive JD redemption story line, and yet his fan votes still do not overtake the 'secret' consistent vote getters, Marty and Mig. While this is not an AI type fan vote show, I really believe the public is making a pretty large statement. I gotta disagree, unless you somehow got a hold of vote totals. The week you're talking about had five contestants. Meaning the MAJORITY of the contestants were going to be in the bottom three. If redemptive story arc had been tried when there were 7 or 8 contestants, and JD *still* wound up in the bottom three, your theories might hold water. But for him to essentially stay where he was, third place in fan voting, is not a "large fan statement".
And JD may have done irreversible damage to himself in the earlier weeks, because in spite of 'good' performances, he still isn't coming close to the amount of votes Marty seems to be pulling from the public. Or the number of sales of singles from MSN (I know Canadians can't download, but Suzie was doing better in downloads than JD and she is Canadian, and Australians can't download, but Mig was doing better in downloads than JD). Pretty Vegas is selling, but it is the only song of JD's that is selling. What if....Canadians happen to like JD's music more than Suzie's, but can't download either. Just because AMERICANS who use msn downloading (the minorty) buy more Suzie than JD. These downloads as no bearing whatsoever on who Canadians like, or Australians etc. You've blended two different arguments. One is valid: There is no Canadian vs. American vs Australian bias since Suzie and MiG are selling well. The other is not: There is no need to count Canada's preferences because they are already represented by the fact that Suzie is selling in the US.
I think the Annunciation to Victory for JD really ended last night, and that we are in for some big surprises on Tuesday. Agreed. The redemptive arc/producer manipulation ended when the last vote was counted tuesday night. Therefore Wednesday's show was all about impressing the LAST voters, INXS, not us the viewing audience. In that respect, Marty and MiG got one shot to impress, JD got two, and hit them both outta the park. First with an acoustic PV, showing off new vocals on a now familiar tune. Then with singing BMS, which got a standing O from his toughest critic, Andrew.
So what does it all mean? That the big ol' evil plot of the producers to keep their bad boy JD in the thick of things, maybe, just maybe was helped by the fact that the guy has talent, really loves the band, and...has fans who actually *like* him, even before Mark Burnett told us to.

| WEDNESDAY ELIMINATION SHOW - 09/14/05 |
[14 Sep 2005|02:45pm] |
Still looking for my spoilers from this week! When I find them I'll repost them -- I think they were lost forever in the great Snarkgasm meltdown :( However, found this tidbit
I know I'm late to the party, but just thought I'd add a few tidbits to what's been said.
Something that JD did at the performance show of Money/PV that was cut from the final airing: After finishing PV, JD takes off his jacket to reveal a shirt that says BETTER THAN PRETTY on it (a shirt he wore in the first weeks of the show). He then pulls his asshat from a pocket, slaps it on his head. Says to the audience. "This is how I came into this competition. And this may be how I'm going out. But maybe NOT out. In. (and he points to OB) In with your band." Then he goes into the "How many people have enought money" back and forth.
Just to tell the FULL story on the question asked JD: "What's your stance on married women?" After telling us he "respected the institution of marriage," he said he believed in giving women what they want, when they want it, how they want it and where.... he ended by saying that "But I hope to get married one day..." then he leans over, kisses MiG and says, "...to MiG" Hoyay!
Speaking of JD man-kisses - PPoD told JD, thanks for the kiss yesterday. Said it made him question his sexuality because he was diggin' it. Have to add to that: Dave then says, I went home that night to Carmen Electra, but I was thinking of JD Fortune...and the thing is, she understands!" Our warm up guy, a beefy manly-man, agreed. There's just sumthin' about JD that makes a straight man go, hmm ;)
Marty tells everyone that he is most definitely single. And emphasizes that he's "really into" older women. "That's my thing," he says. People were asking him to sign everything from tshirts to scraps of paper. One woman asked if her would sign her "twins", aka her bulbous tatas. Marty to boob chick: Uh, no.

| Thoughts: LIVE vs. Memorex |
[13 Sep 2005|06:24pm] |
As for the show tonite. How wonderful to see it on TV -- enjoyed it MORE than being there, since I was stuck in a corner of the stage, with limited view! I DID have a stanza of Pretty Vegas Acoustic crooned to me, so I'll stop complaining :)
JD, man....did he bring it or WHAT, y'all? WORD to whoever said that this was a different JD than the one we saw during MONEY, but I'm loving all the facets we've seen of this guy - right back to the hair-grabbing pogo-er from day one. Yes! Go back and take a look at that performance - American Woman. The pieces of the puzzle were there -- scattered, but there. Now they just seem to be fit together tighter, stronger. and By My Side? Let me just say, this is my favorite MH ballad, and I have 4 versions of him singing it. JD did a magnificent job on this...and somehow managed to NOT channel Hutch at all. How?? It was 100% JD there! With Mystify, I could hear the Hutch all through the song, but not in BMS -- and that is an amazing feat. Loving this guy more and more.
MiG - dude. I missed the whole shirt rip thing, live. Thank god. Because that was the single funniest moment I've had watching this show since StopGO! I kid the MiGster, I really love the guy, but the Camel-toe velvet pants (heh.) with matching jacket... were off-the-chain BAD! The cutaways to Tim and Kirk said it all. Just, NO.
Marty - watching this guy is like watching Transformers in slo-mo. It's like he's plugged into some power source and is slowly becoming this super human robot. I dig it! Particularly the robot dance! The guitar-smashing, not my thing.
Suzie - her vocals blow me a way, but I just was not feeling her stage presence. I kept thinking about if I would be a happy concert goer if I'd just paid 50 bucks to see INXS, and got THAT performance of Suicide Blonde? Sadly, no. Very heartfelt, warm and classy exit, and I'll buy whatever she puts out on CD.
So. Who's gonna take this thing? In my heart of hearts I believe MiG is out of the running. If Jon is saying, "he looks like a rockstar, but is he a rockstar?" and Timmy is saying, "It's going to be harder than we thought to knock the theatre out of him." well, we saw NOTHING in What You Need to allay those concerns. Indeed, they were, IMO, reinforced.
So that leaves Marty and JD. Two seriously divergent paths, and though my feet are firmly planted on the JD route, I can see the Marty route VERY clearly. What will my beloved Binxies do??

| TUESDAY PERFORMANCE SHOW: AIRED 9/13/05 |
[11 Sep 2005|02:46pm] |
09/13/05 - TUESDAY PERFORMANCE SHOW – (TAPED/SPOILED 09/11/05)
Hi Gang! Just got back from taping - late I know! But had to go out for drinks with the spoiler gang, since this was our last Sunday taping! Big hugs to LAXguy, Hazeyjane, CarolB, and Joelle96.
Haven't read the thread so forgive if repeating...
AWESOME SHOW tonight. Strange, I have mixed feelings about my favorites, but here's what went down.
Bit of Q&A before the performances. Marty was asked if his confidence during the INXS interview may have come off as overconfidence, and he felt that no, he was just stating how he felt, and that he has always said that he was willing to meet INXS half way. That's just who he is. Binxies liked this answer. I can't remember the question to Suzie, but she made a point to say that, though she's gratified to be the last woman inthe competition, it really isn't about male or female at this point, just about who's roit for OB. Binxies liked this answer too. MiG was asked about not being in the bottom three and therefore had never sang an INXS song -- was that a detriment? No, says MiG -- it just means that the fans REALLY like what they're hearing, and that they think he's the man for for the job! I'm lame and I'm drunk, so I'll leave it to others to remember what JD was asked, and how he answered. And he's my boy! Everclear has brain damaged me to the point that I can't even remember the pearls of wisdom from my very own batshit's mouth! (Seriously. BAD monkey! Now, dance!)
On to the performances.
First up Suzie with Four Non Blondes What's Up and Interstate Love Song, only my favorite. Song. Evah! Suzie fuckin' rips the roof off, kids. I know I say that a lot, but this time, it's true. She had the house whipped up to JD levels for her second song, What's Up -- good song to sing along at the top of your lungs to. Crowd LOVED her. I loved her, 90% for vocals, but 10% because I REALLY love those two songs and Suze hit every note save one. OB? Well, after each rawkers performance, I practically give myself whiplash trying to see OB's immediate reaction. For Suzie, applause! for her first song, and staggered standing O for her second. OB told her flat out: she's got the BEST voice in this competition.
Then came my boy JD. Holy mother, I love him. Call me, JD! First, again with the Pretty Vegas. More Megaphone. More pogoing. Even more folks in the crowd singing the song. But kids, I am sad he didn't get to do another cover song, like the rest of them. I don't understand why INXS gave it to him again? What didn't they see the first two times they gave him this song? But whatever they were looking for...they appeared to have found it, because they lept to their feet after he finished the first song. Then my batshit boy starts talkin' to the audience like we're his bestest buds. Talking about dreams, and if any of us ever dreamed about...having more money. YES! we say, (because, uh, *i* would follow me) and he asks us again -- DO YOU WANT MORE MONEY? Batshit screams. YES! We holler! Then he goes right into MONEY by Pink Floyd. The beat of this song doesn't go down well with the rhythm-challenged audience, who don't quite know whether to do the koooky arm wave, clap in 4/4 time or do that head-banger/devilhorn thing. But batshit doesn't skip a beat. He nails the song, and has OB leaping to a standing O. Tongue bath ensues. Felt more love from OB than from the audience, but it was like last week reversed -- this time SUZIE whipped up the crowd into a frenzy, and JD had to follow.
Next up: Mighty Marty Casey, singing Trees!Acoustic! and then Creep/Radiohead. Just lovely, gang! Marty sets up two stools, and then he and freakin' PPoD play Trees! Audience sings along to the sesame street lyrics. Even me, and I've only heard the damn thing twice.
Let's You and Me! Sing Marty's song Trees! And we can be together!
OB gave him major props for having the balls to go acoustic on the song. Though the audience was screaming so loud that some of it was drowned out, all agreed that was a GOOD problem to have. I can't really remember the reaction to Creep -- except that OB loved it -- Radiohead is one of their favorite bands, and Marty did them justice. I fucking LOVED it...but because I'm a major fan of that song. But a mmmmMarty non-lover next to me remarked: "maybe not a good idea to sing a song with the words 'I'm creepy and I don't belong here' in them." Heh. But he totally brought the crazyeye...in a sensitive serial killer kinda way. Marty may eat babies...but he sings them lullabies first!
Last up MiG. I don't know why he sang Paint it Black first, then Kiss from a Rose to close the show...but there you have it. I was not lovin' this, friends. Technically it was good. But MiG singing Paint it Black is like Kermit the Frog singing Prison Sex by Tool. Homeboy just could NOT. Paint. It. Black. Light beige, maybe. But not black. Sigh. Then he talks about how dark the world is today, and how we need a ray of sunshine in these dark days. That ray? Seal's Kiss from a Rose. Here's the thing about MiG. If what he's done has been working for you this whole time, you're gonna love this. For me? Too many unicorns, rainbows, children's giggles and puppies. For OB? They gave MiG props for his arrangement of PIB -- which did kinda rock toward the end of the song when he changes tempo of song. They also raved about Kiss from a Rose.
So in short -- EVERY body got love love love. Binxies went out of their way not to show too much favoritism. Trying to be objective (heh.) it seemed as though that they were most enthused by JD, Marty and Suzie. Where does this leave MiG? Still the most popular man in the competition, voting wise.
Okay, here's my moment with OP:Dave and batshit: I will try to drag out the three point seven seconds it lasted into a meaning-filled story, replete with Sex! Danger! and Threeways!
I went up to OP:Dave to say hi again...and he looks at me like he's never met me before, and says, "Hey! You're prettier than I thought!" which is a much nicer back-handed compliment than the one I got last week, which was, "Hey! I thought you were a guy!" Though my face may launch a thousand ships...it clearly isn't memorable to OP:Dave from week to week! Sigh.
Then, with the batshit: I waved to him! He waved to me! If you are all versed in American Sign Language, you know that means we will be married and have bebbies in the new year. You're all invited to the christening!

| WEDNESDAY ELIMINATION SHOW – 9/07/05 |
[07 Sep 2005|02:49pm] |
Posted - 09/07/2005 : 5:46:39 PM
Hi gang, back from taping!
I don't even know where to begin. Tonight's show is serious freakin' must see TV, y'all!
Kylie already spilled what was sang. And yes, JD did a long ass spoken word/poetry/rap thing during a commercial break. Def Poetry shit. It was pretty damn good. (See details below).
Show starts with clip of what happened in the house after the perf. show. The rawkers are really starting to feel nervous, shaky, and the whole thing is getting to them, more now than ever before. MiG confessed that his hands were shaking during the entire perf, and the only time he felt good was when he'd FINISHED singing. The words "bottom three" come out of Suzie' mouth yet again in her confessional. Then Q&A with the rawkers. Dave grills them each on the photo shoot, and how it felt. MiG admitted that it takes fifteen minutes of looking like an ass to get one good picture, so that's his excuse for the prancing. Hee! Dave talked to each of them about it except JD -- saying, yeah yeah, we know you're sexy and a natural etc etc. I just wanna hear about your bday party. All had a good laugh about the ass cake, which Suzie claimed was actually pretty good. Heh, Sooz, that was funny. On to the show.
Bwak bwak informed us that for the encore, there was a neck and neck race between TWO songs, according to audience voting. These two songs were light years ahead of the rest. I'm sure you can guess which two. The one who eventually gets it prepares to raise the roof off YET AGAIN, that person is told that they are to have a "surprise opening act." Surprise for US, the audience....but not for the rawkers, who seemed to know what was coming. After the surprise, and the encore, then came time to annouce the B3. Again, it's done in the excrutiating hands up hands down, stand up, you sit down, the rest of you stand bullshit. In the end, all five rawkers are standing, any one of them could be in the b3!
The songs are sung - all crowd favorites, so we all know the words and are trying to egg them all on, even the one who flubbed the words a bit. This time, there was NO 45 minute deliberation. Binxies were back in 10-15 minutes, and didn't beat around the bush.
The result...another VERY emotional good bye. Again we had to clap to New Sensation while watching the rawkers sob. Not roit!
Okay, I gotta add a paragraph here about the JD's spoken word poetry/rap: After the rockers and INXS sang US, they had to re-configure the stage for the House band. It took about ten minutes. During this time, JD hung out on stage, waiting to do his encore of Pretty Vegas. Suddenly, out of nowhere, he launches into this free style rap, I shit you not! It went on for about five minutes - and the audience went NUTS. He rapped about I don't know what, but the only line I DO remember had something to do with "Chocolate covered orgasms". I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried. The audience ate it up. Ultimately, that taping was the JD show, because we got to hear him perform FOUR times: during Us, the spoken word poetry, the encore and the bottom three performance of Mystify. GREAT show!

| MET OP: DAVE! |
[06 Sep 2005|04:03pm] |
Loved loved loved the VH1 show. Good to see them all letting lose and having fun. Even Jordis, who was down in the dumps, ended the evening laughing her head off, and poring champagne into Marty's eye. Jorty lives!
Meeting OP:Dave was VERY cool. First words out of his mouth: "I thought you were a guy." Sigh. Perhaps I should walk back and forth across the room with a book on my head, practicing "The rain in Spain falls Mainly on the Plain."

| SPECIAL SPOILERS SENT TO THE JD CRACK CLUB ONLY |
[04 Sep 2005|08:52pm] |
So, during the show, there were a bunch of JD fans who only really cared about what their boy was up to, so for them, I sent out special spoilers. Same show, but seen through JD goggles...here's a taste...
Okay, they showed the studio audience (not the rawkers) the VH1 show, so we all saw our boy being at first absolutely delicious, then absolutely adorable with the whole ass cake thing. The whole audience was EATING. IT UP. It was lightyears away from the booing he got last week. Audience laughed, whistled cheered through all the JD stuff.
Then it was time for the actual taping to start. And guess who opened the show? Our very own batshit! No time for house drama or Q&A because as you all probably know, each contestant was to sing two songs. They run a clip of JD prepping Come As You Are with the house band, and we realize...he's gonna go acoustic on our asses! YES! Then JD hits the stage, and, I shit you not, the entire venue goes nutso, it's like they bussed in everclear drinkers from the four corners or something! He starts off slow, and practically croons Come as You Are, and EVERY. WOMAN. MELTED. I'm not making this up, he had us at "come..." Hee! Okay. He sings the song slow for about 3/4th of it. And it's beautiful, kids! Melodic. He does break out some kooky hand gestures in the middle of it, but I was too busy screaming like a 13 year old girl to notice. At one point, Kirk, thinking that was the end of the song, LEAPT to his feet and started clapping like a mad man, until he realized, JD wasn't done yet! JD kicks the whole song up in the end to Nirvana levels, and starts rockin' out. The ENTIRE room was bouncing and screaming their freakin' heads off! The crowd was completely nutso for him. So then JD goes right into his second song (they all did, kinda did a little talking to the audience in between songs, to ramp up for the next song....well, that's what the OTHERS did, not JD,) he immediately starts a call-and-response with the audience, who are eating out of his hand. And he goes right into, you guessed it! - "It Ain't Pretty!!!!!!!!!" or as its been retitled: "Pretty Vegas" It really must have been true fans there, because I SWEAR the audience was singing along with the chorus. I was, at any rate. When he ended, there was batshit crazy, thunderous applause that went on for Marty lengths. OB and Dave JUMPED TO THEIR FEET!!! Every one of them praised him to the skies - great vocals, GREAT rendition of CAYA, One of OB even noticed that the audience seemed to know the words, BEST performance of his so far, great command of the audience and stage, loved his original song, and I think it was Kirk who said, "After a great start (in the competition) you've had some shaky performances, but you are BACK, buddy." So, LAXguy and I were practically weeping with joy!

| TUESDAY PERFORMANCE SHOW -09/06/05 |
[04 Sep 2005|02:52pm] |
(TAPED/SPOILED 09/04/05)
Okay! Drunk on everclear, I can only remember bits and pieces of the evening. Counting on other spoiler people! I kinda wrote a lot though, so read at your own risk.
No real time for Q&A (yay!) since each rawker had to sing two songs.
Here’s the skinny:
First up, JD, singing Come As You Are. Okay kids, he had me at “come…” He was fuckin’ awesome. Did 3/4ths of the song scaled back and acoustic, then ROCKED out at the end of it. The audience ATE.IT.UP! He goes right into his second song, which was -- you guessed it – “It Ain’t Pretty!” Retitled “Pretty Vegas” (heh, pretty indeed). It was like they bussed in everclear drinkers from the four corners, because the house was not only hoppin’ and rockin’ they were SINGING the freakin’ chorus! OB and Dave: spontaneous standing O and universal tongue bath. "JD's back in the competition" was general consensus.
Next up: Suzie singing I Can’t Make You Love Me. Very lovely vocals! Very soulful. Audience did the kooky arm wave thing (sorry Khajiit), but Suzie got LOTS of crowd love. She then went into her original, a song called “Soul Life.” Which was – wait for it – co-written by and dedicated to Ty Taylor. Form your own conclusions. It was okay, beeyootifully sung. But afterwards, OB, while lavishing her vocals with praise (Best voice in the competition, never misses a note EVER, so heartfelt, they really FELT the song, only two people in the world can sing the song, Bonnie Raitt and Suzie…) they had a little trouble seeing how her original song related to INXS.
Then comes…Mig? Let’s say MiG. Singing Hard to Handle. MiG was MiG. He rocked Hard to Handle, just like we’ve seen him do WWRY, LALD, etc etc. Same moves, and we even see the same striptease and a flash o the MiG’s!Chest! The ladies are a-lovin’ it. Then he slows it way down with his original. Called…? About ballad about a death of a loved one, and having to move on. He crooned, he played piano. Vocally lovely! OB loved him too, but had to wonder…what did that ballad have to do with INXS? They couldn’t’ really picture it being an INXS song. MiG tries to relate that the THEME of the song, if not the actual music, relates 100% to INXS.
Next up, Jordis with We Are The Champions. Bless her dear sweet heart, but homechick has all but checked out of the competition. WATC worked out ten times better for her than it did for JD, but it was still no Heart Shaped Box. On her original song, I can’t remember much, but it was hoppin’ and much more energetic and fun. OB…practically patted her on the head and said there, there, young’un. Almost every comment was prefaced by, “We know you’re the youngest one here…” Dave even threw out a “And lets here it for that rockin’ house band!” Yipes. They asked her if she was losing steam. She told them that she just felt very discombobulated with all the TV cameras, etc etc. She felt out of her element, and less and less “her”. Every one gave her MUCH love, and told her that she’s got a great voice, and “they’re watching a star being born”.
Last up: Mighty Marty Casey. Singing Everlong. Dear me, he was lovely. Pitching, a tinsy bit of a problem, but he was subdued, sat on a stool, and was very melodic! But the intensity was there, baby! Thunderous, floor shaking applause when he finishes the first song. Then he talks to the audience, much more than the other rawkers between their songs, tells them a story of how his original song came about. Then launches into TREES! Holy moly! Fun, catchy song that RAISED the ROOF! Everyone was jumping, screaming their heads off. OB – could not contain their glee! They love him, audience worshipped him.
So there you have it! Off to watch reality show!

| TELEVISION WITHOUT PITY QUIZ |
[02 Sep 2005|04:12pm] |
When did you start watching RS: INXS? Show one, minute one. Planned to just see how they were gonna handle the whole MH thing. I thought they did a nice job of addressing his death, and their need to continue on..so I kept watching the show. Still here!
Who was your initial favorite(s)? Jordis, Ty
Who is your current favorite(s)? JD, Marty
Favorites aside, who do you think will win? Marty (d'oh!)
Do you have any "rituals" during RS? Having a GREAT time at the tapings!
What song(s) would you sell your soul to see covered on this show, and by whom (eliminated contestants included)? I'd give my left nut, had I one, to hear Cuts You Up/Love and Rockets from JD, Closer/NIN from Marty, and maybe Do Ya Wanna Touch/Joan Jett for Jordis (to see if homechick can bring the sexy).
Who are your favorite non-RS:INXS singers? Favorite voices: randomly....Dave Gahan, Carl Anderson/Ted Neely in JCS, Nina Simone, Johnny Cash, Annie Lennox, bjork, and, I'll admit it, George Michael. Bands: Depeche Mode, Smiths, Tool, Pogues, U2.

| Batshit's Bday!!! |
[01 Sep 2005|05:52pm] |
Happy BDAY BATSHIT!!!! Here's everclear in yer eye!*drinks*
JD needs a manager, someone he trusts to filter some of his stupidity through so that we are just left with JD the talent, as long as he is his own filter, stuff like the lewd t-shirt will happen. Perhaps Mrs. JYM Fortune will fill such a void. So wait, I'm married to the guy??? That explains A LOT, actually. Especially why I woke up in Vegas last week with a head ache, the words "homo" and "sapien" tattooed on my forearms, and two-dollah shirt that says JYM luvs Chili! on it. Uh, call me hubby! It's the first of the month and rent's due.
I totally agree with 30MileZone's assessment of what went down at the taping. I would also add that booing for JD was NOT rehearsed (because the cameras weren't rolling when they showed the audience the clip)!
Word on this froehlich:
MDKNIGHT, JD wasn't referring to the comment Suzie made about JD taking a long time in the studio. He was talking about the comment Suzie made during the video clip of them in the recording studio. She told everyone there, "To me, if someone doesn't learn it, and the 15 minutes is up, then that's it." He was definitely reacting to ALL of that. During the rocker Q&A Suzie admits to having said a lot of those things (things said in her "confessional") based on her own insecurity with her own performance in the studio. She felt bad about saying them, and felt she made a mistake. So, based on the extended Q&A at the taping, The Argument was about more than the "He seemed to take a long time in the studio!" remark. But they all seemed to have made up, so guess the kumbaya fest (JD 9:2) hasn't ended quite yet.
Speaking of love fest...hoyay! hoyay! I was really diggin' the man!kisses! my boy gave Ty.
Ty, Ty, Ty. I will not miss you as much as I miss Liquor Store Larry, but I'll WILL fondly remember stopGO! as being the Single. Most. HEELARIOUS half hour of television I've ever witnessed. THANK YOU for that, Tyriffic! Peace please!
Re the SuzieHateTrain: I am not aboard! According to 30MileZone, it was SHE who sought out batshit to see what was wrong - clearly she wanted to take time out from "the BESTEST night of her life" (Marty 9:1) to see if her bud was okay. He wasn't and let her know why. They fought. She cried. They made up. I can't hate on people for doing what people in closed quarters do. And I will bet you a MILLION dollars that someone keeps asking Suzie to TALK about her B3 fears in those "confessionals". Ditto with the bwak bwak grilling at the Wed Q&A. You could practically HEAR the eyerolls from the rawkers, as if to say, "we all DEALT with this shit DAYS ago."

| WEDNESDAY ELIMINATION SHOW - 08/31/05 |
[31 Aug 2005|03:31pm] |
Hi gang, back from taping. Haven't read boards yet, so bear with me if I'm repeating. WARNING, I'm lame. Don't have juicy stuff. But, FWIW....
Some show. Some non-spoilery stuff first.....Guess who got her FIRST. SHOUT OUT. EVAH????!!!!! Me!! Woohoo! After Warm Up guy says, "don't be the lame ass who posts results on the internet," My Producer: Dave, takes the mic and says, "Just want to give a shout out to LAXGuy, JUNKYARD MESSIAH (hee!) and hazeyjane, we read the message boards, and really appreciate what you guys do and that you don't spoil the show," Then a group in the corner squeeed (was that YOU spokesmolly?) thus outing themselves as TWoPpers.
On to the show...First we see clip of what happened back at the rocker mansion after the performances. Three seconds of toasting each other...then more drama than yo' mama could handle. JD and Suzie fight. JD makes Suzie CRY! Then other rawkers hate on my boy. End of clip. No need for Our Editors: Overworked to add in audience boos this time. The place was booing JD like he'd killed the easter bunny. Q&A after clip was mostly about this incident. Suzie told her side, then mamabears Ty and MarTy weighed in, on Suze's side. Then JD gave his side.
The encore: In the bwak bwak "Raise Your Hand if You're Sure" segment (brought to you by Proctor and Gamble) Suzie and Ty thought their performances were deserving of the encore, and I think a few others (again, I was WAY on the other side of stage, couldn't see a gawtdamn thing.) Who gets to sing again? Pretty cool surprise.
The bottom three sang the following: This Time........ The One Thing......... Listen Like Thieves.......
Notes on deliberation: Took an EXTRA LONG TIME this time. This decision wasn't an easy one. Clearly its just getting harder and harder to have any good reason to tell these folks that they're not roit.

| Thoughts: LIVE vs. Memorex |
[30 Aug 2005|05:50pm] |
Quick thoughts:
Big ole fat WORD to hazeyjane and LAXGuy on the alternate universe thing. Again, the editors must have been up around the clock on this one.
Ty - not as impressive on TV as live. I guess the choir (which did indeed suck ass, in the final analysis) and the strings and horns and OB:H AND Ty were such a panoramic extravaganza that I was more excited then than now.
JD - Nice, man. Concur with the first assessment, best vocals we've heard out of the guy on the show. He's been a good yeller, good pogo-er, good growler, but it was nice to hear a melodic sound.
Marty - I'm a bit in an alternate universe I guess. I liked this a lot. A LOT! But...I guess I like the manic marty oeuvre (I Alone, Lithium, TMO) better than teary-eyed, windtunnel-haired marty. Of all the people that OP:Dave are pushing down our throats, I want Marty to win the most.
MiG - Felt it a LOT more at the taping than I did here. I think MiG, JD and Ty all have a VERY well known series of Rehearsed!Rocker!Moves! that I wouldn't mind NEVER seeing again, and with MiG, it's the mic-stand dance thing. "The note" didn't give me a flag-pole sized hard on, but it was impressive! Good on ya, son.
Jordis - Lovely...but homechick needs to shitcan the beauty pageant smiling and lose the guitar. GGMC, bless his little lovesick heart! He just can't keep the adoration from seeping out of his every pore.
SMF McNeil - Again, something about the live performance was just MASSIVE and great and fun and rockin'. Felt remnant of that here. But still thought it totally rocked, and I will be listening to it over and over on mp3.
So as far as editing this show, holy mother of mercy. OP:Kenneth, what's the frequency dude?? I don't get that cut at all. The Q&A up top was skinned to the bone, but the essence was pretty much there. I remember Andrew responding more positively to JD's question of "Did you like what I'd done?" , but the general mood was, dude, we've got your number...and we ain't callin' it. The real heavy cutting came in the comments, as others have noted. Perhaps the frequency is: mild comments to good comments for everyone, and let the AUDIENCE vote on performance alone, sans OB bias. Is that it?? Did I get it?? What do I win!?

| Random Musings... |
[29 Aug 2005|03:55pm] |
electricfish said: I really want to know what happened to clue JD in that he was the only one playing his game. Did OB and/or Mark Burnett finally take pity on him and tell him to knock it off, or did his fellow rawkers have it out with him? I wonder too! Maybe he just looked around one day and realized that he was the only one twirling his moustache. His "bad" behavior seems to fall into two categories: the gradeschool machiavelli stuff (which seemed to be about playing in a Survivor-type game); and (for me) more serious, heartfelt differences, like his behavior in the song writing clinic. I think THAT incident will weigh more heavily in OB's decision than any of his "Heehee! I got Suzie to take a song she wanted anyway! Mwahahahaha!" For me, that song writing clinic actually (ding!) defines why I LIKE the guy. Shoot for the heights and make it, or crash and burn miserably, but never settle on the mediocre.
Just had some thoughts JD choosing Elvis vs. MiG choosing Queen. MiG had the option to do Queen really early on, to get it out of his system, and move on. He's had the opportunity to perform WWRY, to snark on JD by performing WATC, to seem like a smart/nice guy for giving up BR to Suzie. But suddenly in week 9, we get our first and only Elvis song. Which one of the three MiG/Queen options was he supposed to follow? Doing it and killing on it, NOT doing it, letting someone else do it worse, then snarkily killing it, or handing it off as a grand gesture?

| TUESDAY PERFORMANCE SHOW - AIRED 8/30/05 |
[28 Aug 2005|05:43pm] |
Okay, back from the frigging NINE HOUR ROCKSTAR extravaganza. I beat. I'm drunk. I'm sad...but I will post a little before bed time.
Q&A before the performances:Again, it was the JD and MiG show. MiG was grilled as to why he didn't fight for his first choice, Bohemian R. He gave a GOOD answer, saying in a nutshell that he wasn't auditioning for Queen, ultimately, but to show THIS band what he could do. Big props for this answer from OB, who told him that if he'd given a different answer, or indeed DONE the Queen song, they wouldn have been HIGHLY disappointed in him. JD's Q&A were all about his prep time for the song. I guarantee 90% will end up on the cutting room floor. Why wasn't he prepared? Dave asked. He said he did work on the song, but that a certain part of the song wasn't written for a male voice, and rather than put his own spin on it, he wanted to see what OB had in mind for him to do. apparently he came in with FOUR different ways to do this part, but Jon said, they'd had preferred him to have just ONE and to present that. JD was defensive and pissed about the "reality clip" of him, in which he's shown fucking up the song. He basically called bullshit on the editting of that, saying that what you DON'T see is that they each only had 20 minutes in the recording studio, and asked Jon and Andrew point blank: did YOU guys have a problem with what I did, ultimately? Both conceded: No. Andrew went on further to say: actually (ding.) several of the rawkers struggled with that very same part. Ultimately however, NONE of them were throwing him any love. Why will it end up on the cutting room floor? Because JD's answers referenced the editing hatcheting job (my words, not his) done on him.
Performances: Ty:ripped roof off. He had a full choir, string section, vocals were impeccable. Standing O - they praised EVERYTHING ABOUT his performance. Were very specific in their praise this time, no half-hearted "yeah, good job, thanks." this time around.
Jordis: Sang Imagine. Smiled her way through it. Lovely vocals. For me it was Layla II. For OB? The second coming with ice cream. They LEAPT to their feet when she was through. GGMC practically rushed the stage to propose eternal love. The rest of band was right on his heels.
Marty: I thought he was really good. OB didn't praise him to the skies, but they loved him nonetheless. Marty is totally safe, even if he lands in B3, OB love love love him, particularly after DC and the reality clinic.
JD: The best I've heard him vocally. Maybe better than the Letter. He sang Elvis...but it was his LEAST BATSHIT ELVIS PERFORMANCE EVER!!! I was beside myself with joy and happiness over his performance...until I looked over at OB, who clapped, but didn't stand. And then it got so much worse. They LASHED him. Incredible. If this had been WAtC week, I would have gotten it, but this is the best he's been in weeks. They ripped into him for basically playing it safe by doing an Elvis song when he used to be an Elvis impersonator (hello? anyone remember MiG singing Queen?) He said that this was the first time he'd ever actually sung the song.. OB was confused by his answer. Is he saying he NEVER sung this song before? He says, yes I've sung it for money, dressed in an Elvis suit and all the trappings, but not as MYSELF. Boyfriend was practically in tears. OB thought this was the WRONG choice for him, especially when now's the time to break OUT of your comfort zone. JD replied he wanted to put the whole Elvis thing behind him, much like MiG had to do with Queen. "Saying goodbye to an old lover, as MiG said, and I thought that was beautiful." OB...didn't seem to give a rat's ass. Before sending my boy off, Timmy throws in a last zinger -- "oh, I've listened to all the (rawker inxs) tracks, and I think YOURS was the least prepared!" They really kicked the shit out of him. It was painful on several levels...as an everclear drinker, but also as someone who heard his performance and thought he showed a different, lovely, more melodic side to his voice. I'm very sad.
MiG did GREAT! I'm not a milk and cookies girl AT ALL, but he rocked it. Though OB gave him a standing O, they were slightly harsher on the critque with him than with any of the others, save JD. Told him that he went nasally at times, and that affected his diction. This comment came from both Jon and Kirk.
Suzie: Well...little Suzie had IMO the best performance of the night. She RAWKED bohemian rhapsody. Its a great freakin' song, so you can't HELP but really feel it with the house band, the strings, and a full choir, but our girl Suzie TOTALLY brought it all together, with the best vocals, and highest energy AND, according to hazeyjane she even brought the CrazyEye!!!! I'll let her tell it :) Best. Show. Closer. EVER! Go Suzie!
Thoughts: For me, no bottom three -- they all kicked ass. For OB, it seems there is a top five. Comments to JD were pretty brutal, and his only hope is that his fans vote for him in such droves that he escapes the bottom three. Otherwise...I fear he's a goner! I mean, can they really get rid of Ty (who seemed likely to be the next one out) after the crazy praise they heaped on him? Even if JD hits the bottom three and kicks the ever living shit out of an INXS song...I can't imagine *who* they would send home in his place. Given one more week, maybe he could turn it around! But the whole clinic thing (heavily edited or no) really did him no favors. If he'd pulled this shit last week - safe. Now? Sigh. Did I say I was sad? I'm very very sad.Clarifying spoilers:
Marty:Was in NO WAY in trouble, just because he didn't get a standing O. Believe me, you came away thinking that OB was in love with the guy. So concern for Marty? Not necessary. He kicked ass, the audience let OB know it, OB let Marty know it.Andrew said that after the recording session, Marty reminded him of a glow worm that his kid used to to sleep with. Meaning I guess that our Marty was glowingly happy! The rest of OB looked at Andrew funny and he shrugged, saying, "I told you I'd say something weird."
MiG: I can't believe I forgot all the dick jokes during MiG's comments from OB and Dave. Dave commented on MiG's impressive "package". I was so far away I couldnt' behold the package wit my own eyes, but I'll take Dave's word for it. Jon, as other's commented, said MiG's performance "got him hard enough to hang the Sydney flag from it!" TMI, Jon, TMI...
MiG and JD:During Q&A during JD bashing, Dave was kind of inviting the rawkers to get in on the conversation-- didn't THEY think it was bad for JD to come in unprepared? MiG said, JD has his own way of doing things, and that works for him for the most part. And I think it's unfair to comment because none of us have heard the finished product. He was much more articulate and nice when saying this, giving JD the benefit of the doubt.
Re:recording studio clinic stuff cut: When Andrew told JD that actually, SEVERAL PEOPLE HAD PROBLEMS with the same part JD did, JD replies, "not according to THAT (meaning the clip) they didn't."
Re binxs "testing" JD or Marty:I can't see that. Really, OB come off as well meaning guys who just want to find a lead singer through a difficult process. SOMEbody has to go each week. So when that person DOES go, it's not a hideous trickster plot on OB's part, its just the way it goes.
Re JD singing Elvis:When accused of singing in his comfort zone, JD said that this was the exact opposite. He had to work hard on this song, because when he'd done it before, it was all tricked out with Elvis!Show! trappings. He says, "Have you ever BEEN to an Elvis show? You know it's about the persona. Most times I'm known as that guy who does Elvis. I wanted to sing this as ME, and I've never done this before. And I had to work hard on this song to do that." This was not said in a "backpeddling", he was just really emotional. Think Deanna.
Last spoiler re performance show editing: Stood next to Our Producer:Dave when he said that the performance show was clocking 30 minutes over time. Meaning that they were gonna have to find a way to cut a HALF HOUR of material out. So whatever ends up on the cutting room floor may be there due to time-constraint issues, not particular sabotage of one person or another. But that being said...since JD talked the most, it stands to reason that his stuff will be cut the most.

| Notes from the CD RECORDING: TOP SIX SING! |
[28 Aug 2005|03:50pm] |
CD Recording:
Holy GOD this CD's gonna be fantastic. Full length versions of all our favorites by our favorites (with the exception of Suzie singing Get Back. WTF? Best performances - ALL of them!
Ty kicked things off with Everybody Hurts, and had me weeping. And then I wept anew when he sang No Woman No Cry! Woman, cry, morelike! Full of energy, happiness at his family's presense.
Next up, Jordis I think. Just fuckin' KICKED HSB outta the park. She had to do two takes, but I didn't mind, was happy to rock out to it again. She also did MWSTW.
Then Marty. Oh Marty Marty Marty! His Mr. Brightside acoustic was better than even that REHEARSAL that we spoilers went on and on about. Brilliant. Ditto Lithium.
Re Marty's CD songs: When he sang Lithium, he tells the audience, "When Cobain sang, he would do it in one shot, no second takes. I'm gonna do it like Cobain did it." Meaning, raw, and that whatever came out, was what we were gonna get. Pure genius followed. Love this guy.
Then MiG. My energy was starting to flag, but MiG raised the roof with THREE songs, WWRY, WAtC and Lola. Hm. I smell conspiracy. THREE songs?? He did each twice, and the last version of Lola was sung with his glorious MiG'S!Abs! in full view. He stripped, he made Marty strip (or at least flash his Marty's!Scrawny!Chest! He sang happy birthday to two chicks in the audience, ending each rendition with a kiss and a stroke on the cheek. Holy mother.
Re MiG's CD songs: Yes, WWRY and WATC were song as one continual song, with an ever so slight break in between them. Still, we heard all three songs TWICE, so for me it was definitely an overdose of MiG.
Next up Suzie, and at first I was ready to bail, because her singing Get Back didn't do it for me the first time. Immediately woke up on her Losing My Religion, however. Awesome. I actually (ding!) cheered when they said she had to do it again.
Last up, my batshitcrazy boy JD! Oh man I love this guy. VERY loose, very friendly with audience (they ALL were). Busted out Cal Dreaming, pogo and all. Then came the Letter and Batshit really let loose, rolling around, grinding, growling, and wait for it-- totally doing the "HUMAN BEING/BEING HUMAN" forearm stacking!!!! Hee! He did Letter again, and it was even better. AWESOME way to end a long-ass day

"Jordis sang unaccompanied at the request of someone in the audience, and she sounded great". -- JYM and 30MileZone and the rest, can you guys fill this out a little better, what did she sing? More details please. A person in the audience said they'd come all the way from New York to hear her sing, and while they were glad she wasn't in the bottom three, they are VERY sad not to hear her voice. Could she pretty please sing something? Jordis complied, took the mike, sang a song I didn't know a capella. It was very lovely!! That's all I remember.
Re: Polite comments being made to JD just for politeness' sake, again I'll disagree. With Ty, OB/PPoD say stuff like, "That was fun. Thanks!" With JD its "You're the one who's really knows what you're doing in this competition." "You're voice suits the back catalogue best of all the rockers", "you want this the most, you listen to us. Good job." "Your song was the best of the three" etc etc. Do they lavish him with praise every week? No, but they haven't been half-hearted or vague about the praise they've given.
Re: Bad comments edited out for JD: The bad comments to JD that have been edited out so far, came early on, after he rearranged HIMP -- they did tell him, "Rearranging is great and all, but you can't rearrange our entire back catalogue." And the rest of OB agreed. The way it appeared on TV-- a total tongue bath. I think he got a bit of a whipping on ATGB too, and I don't think it was shown as such on tv. But this isn't exclusive to JD. Pretty much everybody has had their comments edited. But the general feeling of OB's full comments comes through.

| WEDNESDAY ELIMINATION SHOW - 08/24/05 |
[24 Aug 2005|05:59pm] |
SPOILERS:
Hi gang, back from hour-long taping. Wow! Interesting show.
The nonspoilery stuff about LAXGuy,:Our man got what could arguably be his biggest shout out yet! From PPoD himself!! The warm up guy says something like, we know you're here LAXGuy. And PPoD, who'd just come in and sat on his throne, grabs a mic and says: "What if *I* was LAXGuy? What could you do to ME?" The response: "Fire you in 32 seconds flat" But that came from the warm up guy. Dave's like, "No seriously, what could you do? Sue me?" I missed the rest of the exchange, but there you have it.
Not so much spoilery stuff about the show format:Hour long, indeed, with snippets from what happened in the house after the rawkers got back from the performance show. Then big Q&A between the rawkers and OB. Then lots of raise-your-hand-if-your-sure moments (who thinks they deserve the encore? The B3? etc). The rest of the format is shaken up a bit -- adds more drama, in both a good and a bad way.
Song spoilers: What You Need, Elegantly Wasted, Don't Change................
Impressions:Very emotional show. Good Q&A with the band and the rawkers. Good answers from our Mahtee, JD and Jordis. JD wore his "lucky" assclown shirt again. Mahtee channeled the Jack Skellington vibe (hee!) again.
Wednesdays are a weird day to be in the audience, because of course we have to clap and cheer and whatnot while the rawkers are all, at various times, peeing in their pants with fear, or sad, or sometimes angry, or crying. Strange to be watching that while clapping to the beat of New Sensation.
I can't even think of a way to say anything else without truly spoiling the show, so...that's it!
AND AFTER THE SHOW AIRED:
Quick notes from camp:
Stuff cut from Q&A with rawkers:
Dave promised that if Suzie ended up in the bottom 3 again, he'd wear the Loser Hat that she made from now until the end of the show run. JD was asked (by Bwak, I think) about why he started "playing the game" the way he did, he said, "We were all really good, and I thought we all really wanted badly, and this was a reality show, you know... so I came into this thinking it was Survivor meets...I don't know what. I thought that that was how everyone was playing it. Next thing I know, it's just me, and well...I've tried to adjust that."
later: While INXS was deliberating on which of the bottom3 was to go home, the remaining Rockers (Suzie, Jordis, Mig, JD) had an informal Q&A with the audience. I didn't really refer to this, because it kinda would give away who was and wasn't in the bottom three.
Question: How long do they have to prepare for their performances with the house band? For arranging/rearranging songs? Answer: Only about an hour (?!?!), time enough to go over the song about 3 or four times, said Jordis and JD in a joint answer.
Question: How many INXS songs did they have to learn in preparation for the bottom 3? Answer (again from Jordis/JD): About forty songs! (I had thought they were all given the 3 songs, and time to practice them, but they made it sound like they were given Greatest Hits and told to go learn it.) Maybe I misunderstood the question.
Question: Who's the biggest prankster in the house? Answer: EVERYONE points to JD without hesitation, who laughs. MiG tells the naked JD story. Suzie tells the naked MiG story.(see 30milezone's spoilers!)
Question: What is the most memorable moment that you've had so far, that you'll take away from this experience? Jordis: Getting to sing with Camp Freddy at the House of Blues. MiG: Seeing my wife come around that corner to surprise me! (the crowd goes awwwww!) JD: Before this, I hadn't been on a stage in two years, so looking out into the crowd, seeing faces, some familiar faces, that's been the best. Suzie: "Most memorable moment? Seeing JD's hairy ass in my face." JD retorts...Which time?
Question: What was your worst job? Jordis: She painted houses, and had to haul ladders, nail shingles etc. Back breaking work that she did just last summer. JD says, "so this summer's working out a bit better for you, eh?" MiG: He used to build and sell Baby beds! Ran some baby store in Sydney with some horribly cutesy name like "Tots Go!" (that wasn't it, but seriously. Monkey. It was a dumb name.) JD: cleaned hotel rooms on the graveyard shift. Suzie: Singing telegrams...dressed in a costume, the audience wanted to know? No, says Suzie, I did it naked! (Hmm. I sense a theme.)
So over all, the questions were a step up from last week's "Tell the Australian one he's HAWT!"
Some stuff cut from Deanna's goodbye to the rawkers: Right after saying that "reality people are actually people, and I don't WANT to go home, I wanted to be in your band," Deanna turns to the rawkers, and kinda loses it, says, that she is so happy that they put up with her, when she was being quiet and introverted, that's how she was, hard to get to know, and then she thanked them for sticking with her until she DID finally open up...and when she'd finally let them all into her heart...it was time for her to leave." That's when the real waterworks started. I even teared up from the audience!

| Thoughts: LIVE vs. Memorex |
[23 Aug 2005|06:00pm] |
Dug up the spoilers, to do some Live vs. Memorex comparisons. FWIW...
Suzie: Okay VoteForSuzie folks....GAME ON! Suzie kicked ass YET AGAIN! She really opened the show on a great note, got the crowd pumped and she really had fun. Homechick was so happy she stage dove into the crowd!, Loved voice a little more, her stage presense a little less!!! Oh my, her voice just rocks – but on tv I thought she was smiley, despite what Timmy said. It felt like she moved around a lot more in person. On TV she seemed to be more stationary. The stage dive was awesome!
JD: My boyfriend's BACK y'all! He tore the roof off! Those who harbor deep hatred may not be swayed, but EVERCLEAR DRINKERS, he totally comes through for us! It's like HIMP and the Letter all over again! His JD's!Chest! makes a glorious appearance. Be warned, the Elvis stylin's DO make an appearance. Holy crap. I’m drunk on everclear. Love his Cocker/Elvis ass! But. It wasn’t the Letter or HIMP though, I was hypnotized by the nearness of his JD’s!Chest!
Deanna: Well. I'm gonna reserve judgment. Her song wasn't bad. It rawked hard. And again, her boobies get an A+! But I think I smell bottom three on her. Oh man, this song rocked, I was really feeling it this time around. She just needed to go potty before hand. Go Deanna and go Deanna's!Tatas! I don’t think she should go home, because she really kinda kicked ass.
MiG: Hooboy. Again, I'm gonna have to just say little about the song, except been there done that, MiGgy! Parts of it were LOTS of fun, and I really got into it. But other parts...well. OB's opinion, from what I can remember, was mixed but upbeat. Castles in the sky? Just, no. But I still like the chorus a lot, better than the verse. How could I not have noticed the laced codpiece?? What kind of spoiler chick AM I??
Ty: Holy mother. Ty brought it yet again. He had three back up singers. He crooned to the young ladies at the stage, he even had a few scary crotch grinds...but apart from that, he really was awesome. Great performer. I'm really torn. For some reason I don't like him...but I've loved his voice and his performances. The cockiness is a turn off (wait, did I as a JD fan just say that?), but MAN this was so fun, both live and on tv. I still loved this.
Marty: Well, koolaid drinkers, I'll be interested to see if you feel this one. I didn't know the song, which didn't help, but I wasn't feeling this one. At all. He wasn't bad, he was good in fact!! Its just that we've seen him SO. MUCH. BETTER :( OB's thoughts? For once, agreed with mine. Marty was so sad afterwards, that even JD gave him sympathy pat once he got back to the rawker box :( Word to me. Felt the same watching it on TV, but thought Marty is seriously crazy. Not BatshitCrazy. He’s SensitiveSerialKillerCrazy! So what he hacked up half the children in the neighborhood, you still wanna give him a hug.
Jordis: Let me say...I had A LOT of fun rockin' out to Jordis singing. I thought she was giving it her all, and was a good sport singing a song that was bigger than her. That said, homechick was NOT up to taking on Steven Tyler. At. All. I didn't think Layla stunk. It's lovely to listen to as an mp3. This? Not so good. GGB's absense was NOTICABLE, because there was no one there to put a happy face on her misstep. But it wasn't the worst of the night. The only thing I’m changing is…this WAS the worst of the night. I still think she tried, and even when she crapped out in the middle of the song, she still attempted to bounce/dance her way out of trouble, bless her little heart. She looked more edgy in person. On tv she looked very bubblegum.
Best of night: For me: Suzie, JD, Ty..............
And I'll add Deanna in there.

| TUESDAY PERFORMANCE SHOW - AIRED 8/23/05 |
[21 Aug 2005|06:29pm] |
Aug 21, 2005 @ 08:59 PM 13204 replies · 1778602 views Hey gang! Back from taping. Have watched reality show, but haven't read boards, so forgive repeating...
GREAT SHOW THIS WEEK!! Particularly after the snoozefest of acoustic week. Non-spoilery stuff about the taping: PACKED house, lots of rawkers had family there, and the VIP/Guest list is so packed that there weren't that many spots for just ordinary folk to squeeze in! LAXguy got his shout-out from DAVE THE PRODUCER...but THIS TIME without all the "we'll find you and kill you" warnings about posting spoilers. Yay, Dave!! For the first time, they showed the studio audience the ENTIRE reality portion of the show, as we waited for taping to start, so we knew what to expect.
Who sang what, in order of appearance: Suzie - Start Me Up - Rolling Stones JD - Cold As Ice - Foreigner Deanna - My Truth (original song) MiG - Do or Die (original song) Ty - Proud Mary Marty - I, Alone - Live Jordis - Dream On - Aerosmith
How they did...and hold onto your hats....
Suzie Okay VoteForSuzie folks....GAME ON! Suzie kicked ass YET AGAIN! She really opened the show on a great note, got the crowd pumped and she really had fun. Homechick was so happy she stage dove into the crowd!

So, in a shocking twist of events: The frontrunners are gonna have to work for those votes this week. VoteForSuzie folks, get ready to dial your fingers off - this may be your ONE CHANCE to knock one of the Golden Three (MiG, Marty, Jordis), into the elimination sing off.
Best of night: For me: Suzie, JD, Ty..............

Okay, that Jordis/MiG duet on Mystify? Stank. of. Ass. I was not feelin' that at all. I like how they sounded in harmony, but their individual singing? Just, no. Maybe they can BOTH win the competition and sing the entire back catalogue in harmony, but I don't want to hear Jordis sing Mystify alone ever again.
What was a hilarious joke a mere 50 pages ago ("What if INXS is left with three people who can't sing INXS songs! Heehee!") might become a not-so-funny reality.

Okay, in the interest of fairness, I listen to it again, this time with the good headphones on, and I was wrong...even the harmonies stink of ass. Jordis almost had a little JD trouble going on, where she just wasn't singing in her vocal range or something. Why didn't she pull a Suzie and go up an octave?
And MiG, Jesus Christ Superstar called. They need everything about you back.
Has anyone heard that MH "Chicago Demo" version of Mystify? I forget if I got if off a CD or off the internet. But it's a jazzed/rocked up version, that would be perfect way for Marty to sing it. If it has to be one of these "golden three" Marty, MiG or Jordis, I'm throwing my chips in with Marty.

| WEDNESDAY ELIMINATION SHOW - 8/17/05 |
[17 Aug 2005|06:09pm] |
Hi gang! Back from taping. Is there a such thing as spoiling the spoilers? Because, in regards to the spoilers from the last couple pages: About there being a duets week, or duets being sung...They're not true, sorry!
So on to the non spoilery spoilers stuff! LAXguy got his BIGGEST SHOUT OUT YET! The Warm up guy said, don't post the results! You signed contracts! But mid speech, one of the producers (David?) came out, took the mike, and said, "I am LAXguy." I was up front so tried not to giggle like a loon. I almost said, "No WAY, Dave! I'm LAXguy, too!"
Little bit more of a spoiler, but not really: I guess next week...is gonna be REQUEST WEEK! Somehow, the home audience is gonna get to weigh in on what the rockers sing!! Woohoo!!! TOOL! LOVE &ROCKETS! Where do I start voting?? Okay, other weird thing-- they said next Wed.s show is going to be AN HOUR. Hm. Maybe there's room for some duet stuff after all.
A bigger spoiler, but not much of one: the songs sung by the bottom three tonite are: Never Tear Us Apart Mystify.................... By My Side...............
That's all the news, gang! More notes from camp:
While BINXS was off deliberating, the audience got to ask the rawkers questions. Most all questions were from teen girls to MiG or JD.
Question: Can you tell the Australian one that he's HAWT?! Answer: Aw. Thanks! Audience: Awwww!
Question to JD: Are you single? Answer: Yeah, baby. Audience: girly screams.
Question to MiG: Can you show us your chest?? Answer: Well, okay *sheepish striptease ending in a flash of pecs* Audience: A squee heard from here to China
Question to MiG: Are YOU single? Answer: *holds up hand* This is a wedding ring. Audience (the sound of a hundred girls reinacting the Virgin Suicides)
Question to JD: What's the JD stand for? Answer: Jason Dean Audience: Oh.
Question to JD: How long have you been song writing? Answer: ?? Something about "the Canadian Army" Audience: random male cheers from apparent members of the Canadian Armed forces present. WTF?? Some guy shouts, "Vancouver!" JD's like, "Okay. Yeah. Cool, Vancouver."
Question to Ty: Can you do that tongue thing again? Answer: *that tongue thing again* Me: ewwing so loud I couldn't hear audience reaction.

| Thoughts: LIVE vs. Memorex |

Jordis--knocking on heaven's door - Still did not feel it. Holy crap, I wasn’t right in front of the stage this time, so missed the AI vibe and Talent Show/JonBenet Beauty Pageant-style grinning. all shades of wrong. She sounded lovely though. But whatevs.
Suzie - Not feelin’ the ringlets up close on teevee. Random thoughts: Want to have Paul’s baby. Ty very supportive of Suz on this one. Suzie’s got the second best voice in the competition, behind Ty’s.
StopGO! Team leader - Apparently I’d mentally erased the whole Tongue thing. Brain. Could not. Compute. Not feeling the tambourine, the Mo-hawk, er, Mo-Pony-tail, or the prison pajamas. But when I close my eyes? Best voice in the competition. When I peeked through my fingers, I saw that Jordis was very supportive during this one.
Jessica - Vocally weaker on tv than it seemed. The Hand motions and pointing would have worked great in StopGo! Or perhaps a village people song. No way can this chick front INXS, so she’s got to go. They cut all the, “Points to you for hangin’ in there! A for Effort!" comments.
Marty - Random thoughts: Hideous opening notes marty! Nice teeth though dude. Want to have Jim the guitarist’s baby. Marty's nutso Iggy Pop face, not so attractive. Song totally picks up as it goes on. Felt the kool aid there more than here. Jordis gives big Marty love in the cutaways.
Deanna - Audience doing the wavy arm thing. Wavy arms, sorry Khajit, they told us to! JD and Marty trying (and failing) to look supportive. Nice skirt. Cute earrings. Sweet hooters! Buh-bye.
Commercials: THRESHOLD looks like it sucks ass. Sorry CBS!
Justin'sDouble - Better on tv, if you can believe it. But he still didn't bring it. Painful start. Wait, he recovers! Ah...fumble with the creepy pedophile stylin's. But in the end, a save. At least I could hear him on the tv. Thanks primo sound system!
MiG- Baby I Love Your Way - A plateful of meh, with a side of Donny Osmond. His voice just is too mickey mouse for me. “Reedy” indeed. I didn’t get all the emotion live, didn’t get it on the teevee. But he gets total points for singing and playing at the same time. Nice half ass clapping from JD. MiG/Dave/Kirk triple cry-fest? Aww! But was this really the best ever performance on the show, according to GGB?
At the taping, I thought Marty, Suzie and MiG did the best. I'll stand by that, even though the whole thing was kind of a snoozefest. Bottom three, both live and memorex: my boy JD, Deanna and Jessica.
As for Ty being in the early bottom three. Not happy about it but not surprised. I’m going to resurrect one of CroBrandon’s names, “Chick Kryptonite” and give it to Ty. The tongue has got to be put away for good if he hopes to stay in the running.
Okay, part two in a second...

| Random Musings II... |
[16 Aug 2005|08:49am] |
Slightly Off topic: Saw the White Stripes last night in concert. Holy GOD it was a good show. Saw them years ago in London (with the Von Bondies!) when they were pretty much nobodies. But since then they've exploded, and...they haven't changed on bit! Back in the day, they were an odd twosome who fucking rocked. They didn't get friendler, nicer, more comprehensible or safe, but still the audience grew. I have renewed my love for all things Jack White! Meg, too is riveting, couldn't take my eyes off her on the drums.
Comparing what I saw last night, to what I've been seeing on RS? Hm. I guess it's not fair to compare any of the rawkers to singing/songwriting/guitar/piano/drum playing Jack, but damn. The guy is intense, dangerous, fun and talented. Guess that's the only thing that will do it for me these days! Safe and Cute (stopGO!) just ain't gonna cut it for two hours on stage. For some, sure! Just not for me.
Had to respond to this:
TraceywithanE: do wonder how long it will take though before JD lands in the bottom 3, for INXS to kick him off. The size of the fan base behind this guy just sends me reeling. From what I've seen on Forums Who Shall Not Be Named, he's got a lot of teens behind him. Lots of "I lyk u" and "U R the Best" posts. ugh. At least, I'm hoping those belong to teens. Giving us older folk a bad name if they don't. Have you seen the MiG and Marty boards lately? Most of the rockers on this show have a fan base of spelling and grammar-challenged youth filling message boards. Why single out this guy?
I also liked when Marty said to JD "I like the way you write. I just don;t like the way you co-write." I liked this, too. I thought Marty was being nice, honest and considerate, but ultimately had to pick which way to go. He chose to go with the person he connects with the most (apparently) in the house. Can't fault him for that. He went for what would get the job the done with the least amount of resistance. Sometimes great ideas are generated in harmony, sometimes through friction. Marty chose friendship and harmony.
But here's the thing. When I buy a CD, or concert ticket, I don't do it because I know of and approve of all the steps that went into making a piece of music. If the MUSIC is good, you'll get my money. Period. I truly don't care who got along with whom. If someone told me, did you know it took SEVEN HOURS to write Mystify, and Andy Farriss and Michael Hutchence didn't get along during the process! Well...um. So? The song kicks ass. As long as the writing process doesn't involve hurting small animals, I just don't give a rat's stopGO!

As for tonights vh1 show, some thoughts. Camp Diva was a train wreck from the get-go. I, too wonder why Marty chose JD. The edit made it seem like Jessica was everyone's last choice, poor dear! I was not feeling Jordis at all. Yes, homechick is tired of JD's ass, but she was utterly dismissive of his ideas. Ditto for JD, but JD was more blunt (honest?) about it.
Marty was trying to be diplomatic, and his need to make everyone happy ended up biting him. But that said, I don't think he could have done anything differently! If he'd told JD upfront, "Dude you've got mad skillz but we've gotta chose a path, and I chose Jordis's"...JD would have stormed off even sooner. Good tv, but the fight was at least over something real, not manufactured. I appreciated seeing it.
Camp Kumbaya, OTOH, irked the fucking crap out of me. Clearly, I hate happy people, because the more this bus of school girls giggled, the more it drove me friggin' NUTS. Kick! Stop! Go! Tee hee! Wanna play barbies when we're done with this song? Just, no. And, um, Ty? I know KICK is the only album you know, but, dude, the band actually EVOLVED past that shit.
I wonder if Jessica had gone home instead of Liquor Store Larry (sniff!) which team would he have been on? I would PAY. BIG. MONEY. to see him singing Stop!/Go! That would have been priceless. If he'd been on Team Diva, he might have worked his own kumbaya mojo on JD, and gotten him to stick around.
As for JD's recent actions being a sign that he would dis INXS in the same way he did Jordis/Marty/Jessica. I don't agree. He is like an eager puppy when he's with OB, giddy when loved, and tail tucked between legs when criticized. His awe/worship of this band comes through at every turn. And his parting words to Jordis (who said, "we're supposed to be a band - ") summed it up neatly, "we AREN'T in a band, we're competing to *be* in a band." He will do everything/anything to get the gig, but once its his, he would hug it and squeeze it and call it george.
I also kinda appreciated the sentiment of wanting to turn in something worthy of being an INXS song, not simply completing something half-ass.
